The body language that cats use to tell love.🩷🐱
💖 Your show of love.
1. Head-Butting / Bunting
• Cats will use their heads, foreheads, or cheeks to plow on you, or items that belong to you (such as your legs, your arms, or furniture). This behavior is called "Bunting."
• Meaning: It is a transfer of scent from the scent glands on the forehead and cheeks, to mark that you are their safe and beloved "property" or "group member."
2. Massage (Kneading / Making Biscuits)
• Cats will use their front feet alternately to gently pedal, similar to kneading dough on you (especially when they are sleeping on your lap or chest).
• Meaning: It's been an addictive behavior since being a kitten massaging the breast to have more milk flowing. Doing this with you shows that cats feel relaxed, safe and comfortable, like returning to a happy childhood.
3. Slow Blinking / Cat Kisses
• The cat will look at you and then slowly dim and blink once or twice.
• Meaning: This is a "cat Kiss." It's the highest sign of trust and love in cat language. Your slow blink is also a return of love.
4. Belly Exposure
• The cat lies on its back and reveals the abdomen, the weakest and most vulnerable part of the body.
• Meaning: Showing your belly is a sign of great trust and security. They trust you enough to reveal the most important part of your body (but remember that stroking your stomach can scare cats. Most cats only like to look, not to stroke!)
5. Using a tail to wrap or hook a finger
• When walking next to you, the cat may wrap its tail around your leg, or use its tail tip to hook or gently touch your finger.
• Meaning: It's an act of love and greeting. Like a handshake or embrace.
6. Light moan (Purring)
• When they are near you, on your lap, or you are stroking them, the cat makes a gently shaking moan.
• Meaning: Although cats sometimes moan when sick or injured, most of the time moans are signs of happiness, satisfaction, and a sense of attachment to people.
7. Bring gifts
• Cats may bring prey they catch (such as mice or insects) to your door or bring it directly to you.
• Meaning: A cat who loves you will look at you as a family member who is sometimes "incompetent," so they bring you food to "teach" you to eat or to show pride in hunting and sharing.
