Tips for self care and mental health

🩷 I am a big advocate for self care and mental health because both are so important and it can be way at times to neglect both.

🧡 In 2024 let’s make it a habit to practice self care on a weekly basis atleast and to make sure our mental is where it needs to be 🫶🏾

💛 If you have any tips feel free to leave a comment so others can utilize them ✨

... Read moreIt's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget about ourselves, isn't it? I totally get it. For a long time, I thought self-care was just about spa days or fancy treats. But through my own journey, I’ve learned it’s so much more profound, especially when it comes to safeguarding your mental health. What Self-Care Truly Means for Me When I first started exploring self-care, I felt a bit lost. It wasn't until I started breaking it down that it really clicked. For me, self-care isn't selfish; it's essential. It means understanding my limits and honoring my needs. For instance, I've had to learn to say 'no' to things that drain me, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. It's about setting boundaries – not just with others, but with myself too, like limiting screen time or committing to a regular bedtime. I also realized the importance of asking for help when I need it. It’s not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of self-awareness. And honestly, forgiving yourself for past mistakes or for not being 'perfect' has been huge for my peace of mind. It’s truly about putting yourself first in a healthy, sustainable way. Embracing Alone Time: My Secret Weapon One of the most powerful forms of self-care I've discovered is alone time. I used to dread it, thinking it meant I was lonely. Now, I cherish it. It’s my chance to completely recharge and reconnect with myself without any external demands. Whether it's a quiet morning with a cup of tea, a walk in nature where I can just clear my head, or even just staying at home on a Saturday night with a good book instead of feeling obligated to go out – these moments are gold. They allow me to spend time alone reflecting, journaling, or simply existing. It’s where I can truly ask for what I need from myself, away from the noise of the world. Trust me, dedicating even 30 minutes of intentional solo time a few times a week can make a massive difference in your overall well-being. Simple Ways to Self-Soothe When Things Get Tough Life throws curveballs, and sometimes feelings of being overwhelmed, anxious, insecure, or helpless can creep in. I've found that having simple, quick strategies to self-soothe is incredibly helpful. These are like my little mental health first-aid kit! For instance, engaging my five senses is a game-changer. If I’m feeling overwhelmed, I might light a scented candle (smell), listen to calming music (sound), wrap myself in a cozy blanket (touch), sip on a warm herbal tea (taste), or look at something beautiful in nature (sight). These small actions can ground me almost instantly. When I feel anxious, I remind myself to take a few deep breaths, focusing on the exhale. And if negative thoughts start spiraling, I try to challenge them, asking myself, 'Is this really true, or is my mind just playing tricks?' It’s about having a toolkit of easy actions to take when you feel those challenging emotions, much like the simple, clear steps you’d see in a helpful guide. Prioritizing these habits has genuinely transformed my mental landscape, and I hope they can help you too!
