Dom hooked me right away—I actually loved Dom in the beginning and thought I was in for a swoony ride. But then he made a series of dumb, frustrating choices that quickly had me hating him for most of the story. Thankfully, his redemption arc in the last quarter turned everything around, and by the end I was rooting for him again.
Valentine, though, was a little harder for me to connect with. I usually love a strong, bad-ass female lead, and I just didn’t get those vibes from her. Instead, she felt very broken and sad, which was heartbreaking. I cried multiple times for her, and it made me so happy when she finally got the family and love she had always deserved.
One of the best parts for me was when Dan stood up for his wife and called out her family. That moment was powerful and so validating after everything Valentine had gone through.
Overall, this book was cute and emotional. The pacing frustrated me in the middle, but the ending was worth it—Dom redeemed himself, Valentine got her happy ending, and I was left satisfied. 💁🏼♀️😏
