DIRTY CARPET

For grease, a little cornstarch or baking soda sprinkled on, left for 15-30 minutes to absorb the oil, then vacuumed up, can work wonders before you go in with a liquid solution. Coffee stains? A mix of vinegar and water, or a specialized carpet cleaner, usually does the trick. Always work from the outside of the stain inwards to prevent it from spreading. After cleaning, ensure your carpet dries completely to prevent mold and mildew. Open windows, use fans, and avoid walking on it until it's bone dry. For an extra touch of freshness, I sometimes sprinkle a little carpet freshener (store-bought or DIY with baking soda and essential oils) after cleaning. It leaves the whole room smelling amazing! It takes a bit of effort, but seeing your old, dirty carpet transform into something clean and fresh is incredibly satisfying.
