Utah - Scenes from another planet

Scenes from my travel to Utah. 8 days, 5 national parks.

I recently completed an incredible 8-day journey, hitting five of the state's most iconic national parks, and trust me, it felt like stepping onto another planet. If you're wondering about the best places to visit in Utah and how to make the most of its stunning nature, I've got some insights from my own adventure. To tackle five parks in just eight days, planning is key! We focused on essential hikes and scenic viewpoints in each. Here’s a quick rundown of what made each stop absolutely unforgettable and some things to see that you shouldn't miss. First up, Zion National Park. The towering sandstone cliffs and the Virgin River flowing through the canyon create a truly majestic landscape. Don't miss the Emerald Pools trail for lush oases, or if you're feeling adventurous, portions of the Angels Landing trail (permit dependent) offer unparalleled views. For a more relaxed experience, the Pa'rus Trail is a paved path perfect for a gentle stroll. Next, Bryce Canyon National Park totally blew my mind with its unique 'hoodoo' geological formations. Walking among these vibrant orange and white spires on the Navajo Loop and Queen's Garden trails made me feel tiny in the best way. Catching a sunrise or sunset over the amphitheater is a must-do for breathtaking photo opportunities! Capitol Reef National Park often gets overlooked, but its Waterpocket Fold, a 100-mile long wrinkle in the Earth's crust, is fascinating. The scenic drive offers stunning views, and if you're there in season, you can even pick fresh fruit from the historic orchards! It's a great spot to experience a quieter side of Utah nature. Then came the iconic duo: Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. In Arches, seeing Delicate Arch up close after a rewarding hike was a bucket-list moment. Mesa Arch in Canyonlands, especially at sunrise, provides one of the most famous and awe-inspiring views – a true testament to Utah's otherworldly landscapes. Each park offers incredible scenic drives with pull-offs for short walks to viewpoints. Beyond the specific trails, the sheer scale of Utah's red rock country is something to behold. The vastness of the desert, the dramatic canyons, and the incredibly dark night skies (perfect for stargazing!) are all part of the magical nature experience. Make sure to pack plenty of water, layers of clothing (temperatures can swing wildly), and good hiking shoes. Booking accommodations well in advance, especially near popular parks like Zion and Arches, is highly recommended. This trip truly showed me why Utah is called "another planet" – it's an adventure everyone should experience!

A man stands on a vibrant, layered landscape of purple, blue, and grey geological formations, resembling an alien planet. He wears a grey vest and dark clothing, with a brown bag, looking at the camera. The twilight sky with orange and blue hues frames the distant hills.

📍Must visit park in Utah
📍Quail Creek State Park sits in Hurricane, Utah and is not far from Zion National Park. It’s a great place to cool off in the summer or makes a quiet and peaceful spot to camp in the winter months! It’s also a great place to fish, especially in the colder winter months when the water is colder.

A scenic road in Utah with a fence alongside, leading towards large rock formations and mountains under a cloudy sky. The image has an overlay text "UTAH SIGHTS" and a Lemon8 watermark.
Prominent, layered rock formations stand tall against a blue sky filled with scattered white clouds. A road and a parking area with vehicles are visible at the base of the formations.
A grand, old stone building with intricate architectural details, including towers and arched windows, is shown from a low angle against a dramatic sky with dark and blue clouds.
