kitchen remodel on a budget

this actually was finished a few months ago but i wasn't active on lemon8 yet so im posting now!!

yall when i tell you the kitchen was my least favorite room when we bought this house a year ago i mean it.. the cabinets were the fake wood and had so many stains and scratches they just always felt dirty, the counter was plastic granite & was literally missing like 2 inches of counter over the bottom cabinets on both edges, and the walls were painted this pretty blue but painted sooo terribly. my

husband made my kitchen dreams come true with this renovation though!! its now my fav room in the house.

we spent around $350 on the entire reno! (including the appliances, counters, and all of the paint for the walls & cabinets)

... Read moreDreaming of a kitchen remodel but think it's out of reach? I'm here to tell you it's absolutely possible to create a stunning, functional kitchen without spending a fortune. My own kitchen transformation, completed for under $400, proves that with a little creativity and elbow grease, you can achieve amazing results. Here's how to tackle your own budget-friendly kitchen makeover! The Smart Shopper's Guide to Kitchen Savings My biggest money-saving hack was embracing secondhand finds and clearance items. Don't underestimate the power of online marketplaces; I found my white stove for just $150 and beautiful brass hardware for $5! Clearance sections at stores like Lowe's are treasure troves for discounted paint. My Valspar paint, for instance, came from a clearance rack, drastically cutting costs. Always check what's available locally before buying new. Another great tip: try to reuse as much of your existing kitchen as possible. Sometimes, a fresh coat of paint and new hardware are all it takes to revive tired cabinets. Cabinet Magic: From Drab to Fab (No Assembly Required!) If you're looking to achieve a fresh, bright look like my light-colored cabinets without the expense of new units, painting your existing cabinets is a game-changer. The key is in the prep work: thorough cleaning, light sanding, and a good quality primer. Apply several thin coats of paint for a smooth, professional finish. Choosing a light color, like the reserve white I used, instantly brightens even the smallest kitchen. And remember, updating hardware is an inexpensive way to give your cabinets a whole new personality. My new brass hardware made such a difference! Creative Countertop Solutions New countertops can be one of the most expensive parts of a remodel, but they don't have to be. I opted for DIY wooden countertops made from stained 2x8s, which cost around $175 for materials. This gave my kitchen a warm, rustic vibe often seen in cottagecore designs. Other budget-friendly options include installing inexpensive laminate sheets, tiling over your existing countertops for a fresh look, or even finding discounted butcher block. Just be sure to properly seal any wooden surfaces to protect them from water damage and daily wear and tear. Maximizing Small & Old Kitchens For those with an old house, a mobile home, or just a small kitchen, these budget-friendly strategies are even more impactful. To maximize space, consider open shelving (like the shelf I made from counter scraps after removing my microwave) for visual lightness and easy access. Smart storage solutions, like pull-out organizers or wall-mounted racks, can make a huge difference. Bright lighting, including under-cabinet lights and ample overhead fixtures, can make a small kitchen feel much larger and more inviting. When remodeling an older home, try to blend modern updates, like a crisp white stove, with preserved charm to create a unique and cozy space. Your Budget Kitchen Remodel Checklist Ready to start your own transformation? Here’s a quick checklist: Set a Realistic Budget: Decide what you can comfortably spend and stick to it. Prioritize: What are your absolute must-haves versus nice-to-haves? Gather Inspiration: Use platforms like Lemon8 and Pinterest to visualize your dream kitchen. Source Materials Wisely: Look for clearance items, secondhand treasures, and consider DIY materials. Plan Your Steps: Break down the project into manageable tasks. Don't Be Afraid to DIY: Many tasks, like painting cabinets or installing simple shelves, are totally doable for beginners. It's truly empowering to create a space you love on a budget. With smart choices and a little effort, your dream kitchen is within reach!

I love that it still has character, a lot of these remodels I see suck the life out of the house.

We stained the cabinets. With stain you can go darker so instead of painting we went black and had them sprayed. Stain holds up better than paint and you can’t see the touch up marks. I am really liking how it is holding up. $2800 We lighted it with light granite. Granite was harder to pick than
