Rome
5/9 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I visited Rome, I quickly realized that immersing yourself in the city's rich history and culture is what makes the experience unforgettable. One of my favorite memories was taking the underground tour of the Colosseum. It gave me a rare glimpse into the gladiators' world and the complex ancient engineering. Don't miss this unique perspective if you want to avoid the crowds and see something different. Another highlight was the Sant’Ignazio Church, famous for its incredible trompe-l’oeil ceiling—the perfect spot for a mirror selfie! It’s amazing how art can create optical illusions that captivate visitors. If you're a foodie like me, a cooking class in Rome is an absolute must. Learning to make authentic Italian pasta hands-on was not only fun but also a delicious way to connect with local culture. The Pantheon amazed me with its massive unreinforced concrete dome—one of the oldest architectural marvels still standing. Visiting this landmark gives you a real sense of Rome's architectural genius. Exploring Vatican City, especially the Sistine Chapel, left me in awe of Michelangelo's masterpiece. Remember to book tickets in advance to avoid long lines. One less obvious but charming spot is St. Dominic’s Orange Tree at the Basilica of Saint Sabina. This ancient tree has a fascinating legend behind it and offers a peaceful break from busy sightseeing. For a relaxing way to see the city, consider a golf cart tour. It’s not only practical but also a fun way to cover larger areas comfortably, especially if you're short on time or prefer not to walk long distances. Lastly, the Spanish Steps have an interesting backstory I hadn’t known before: they were designed by a French diplomat to connect to the French church above. Sitting on these steps while enjoying a gelato is an iconic Roman experience you should try. Overall, these activities provide a great balance between iconic landmarks, hidden gems, cultural immersion, and fun experiences to make your Rome trip truly memorable.
