stan/fan culture needs to end!

Hey guys! I was hoping to have another discussion with you guys. I see a lot of fans on this app, whether it be of taylor swift or the kardashians/kim. I genuinely feel like once you get to a certain age, You should be able to look at these figures as the people they are instead of the image they create.

I can understand younger kids idolizing pop stars and reality stars, but as grown adults why are we super fans of celebrities still? Why do people feel as though someone like Taylor swift cares about her fans or really anything other than more money and fame? Same for the Kardashians, who have made a business model out of unethical behavior and practices, for example, constantly stealing small businesses designs, or how the kardashians set a beauty standard for years that was basically unattainable.

I think it’s different to be a fan of someone when they have values or speak up for something you believe in, or smaller artists who actually need support. When it comes to artists such as taylor swift and drake, I cannot understand. These artists are not exceedingly talented compared to hundreds of others, are constantly making cash grabs, and there are people who fall for it every time and basically eat it up.

Another example because I don’t want to focus too much on taylor/ the Kardashians (Although those are the biggest examples in my mind) Is how melanie martinez has repeatedly sold merch at RIDICULOUS upcharges, such as a small egg candle for almost $100 inc. shipping and handling. That is INSANE and let me remind you- the artist definitely has a say in prices and such. Things like this, or like how taylor’s documentary or whatever the extended version was like- $50??? These are the same artists who personally probably make more pollution than probably hundreds of us combined. Taylor has taken private jets for 30- an hour long drives.

These people are so far removed from reality at this point that I really sincerely doubt they even have the capacity to care whatsoever. I’m not even gonna get into the whole re-releasing album thing because that’s its own issue among artists in the industry, but that was honestly a low move and her fans still ate it up.

I really believe we as a whole should hold artists and people in hollywood accountable, because to be real most of them aren’t good people. That isn’t to say people cannot make mistakes and be forgiven, but I would hope you guys know what I mean. Once more, this isn’t a post to single anyone out. I don’t think taylor is a good person, but i also don’t think most artists/celebrities are good people. Beyonce, justin timberlake, morgan wallen, taylor swift, even melanie. I could name plenty more but I fully believe these people are simply not deserving of their support for anything other than if they have talent, which few really do these days.

I’m really not trying to hate on anyones interests or hobbies, but I would like to hear opinions on all sides. Why do celebrities still have such extreme fan bases? the barbs (!!!), the swifties, it’s quite ridiculous. These artists and their marketing teams have you guys hooked and you don’t even realize that you are a fan of an image that has been created. Why are you so convinced they’re good people? Explore other music, indie artists! I promise most of it is better than the mainstream, and i’m really not trying to even be that person lol. Anyways again I would love to hear from anyone their thoughts or why they are big fans of someone!

... Read moreStan and fan culture have become pervasive in today's society, often leading people to idolize celebrities without critical examination. It's essential to understand the dynamics of fandom, especially how marketing tactics engage consumers. Celebrities like Taylor Swift and reality TV personalities create carefully curated images that resonate with fans, but this often obscures their true behaviors and values. The influence of social media amplifies this phenomenon, as interactions with celebrities can feel personal yet remain superficial. Critics argue that such star worship can detract from genuine appreciation of artistic talent. By focusing on artists who promote authentic values or independent music, fans can foster a more meaningful musical landscape. Consider the impact of commercialism in the music industry, where artists opt for high-priced merchandise and limited editions that don't reflect their artistry's worth. This practice can lead to feelings of disillusionment among fans who may question the ethics behind such marketing strategies. Furthermore, the importance of accountability in today’s celebrity culture cannot be overstated. When fans support individuals who engage in questionable practices, it perpetuates a cycle that often prioritizes profit over genuine artistry. Exploring other genres or supporting emerging artists can shift this dynamic, allowing fans to engage with music on a more meaningful level rather than just being a commodity.

I’m a big fan of Taylor swift because I can relate to her music her music has gotten me through some stuff. I could go to any album of hers and find a song that’s exactly the way I feel. But I’m not one of those crazy obsessed fans ethier🥴 I got kids to raise and a life to live😅 my whole world don’t evolve around Tay

i honestly completely agree with you, people idolize/worship them. to me it’s absolutely insane. i’m not a fan of taylor or the kardashins at all so i won’t even speak on that. but celebrities in general i honestly don’t really like tbh. sure i enjoy their music but it’s nothing beyond that.
