I feel like the elder generations don’t understand the blatant canyon between our costs and theirs. From their understanding, if you just “play the system” and pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you’ll be successful and have nothing to worry about.
This is simply not true anymore. Unless you have vast generational wealth/privelage, really great connections, or an infinite amount of luck, it is so much harder nowadays to truly flourish, and many struggle just to get by.
I’m sure many will want to blame it on politics, but realistically, although it definitely plays a part, companies and corporations price gouging has made these problems so much worse. Since covid, so many companies have been doing it so much worse than before, and a big example is gas companies. They could easily lower their prices and still make money, but choose not to out of corporate greed.
I feel heavily for young people today as we must deal with the weight of the world as its environment is collapsing, while also worrying about our futures and how to somehow become prosperous. Does anyone else feel stress or anxiety about these issues? I feel as though it will be at least a decade or more before I can even dream of owning property or even buying a car. With the rising cost of education and healthcare, youths are caught in a cycle of debt and uncertainty that weighs heavily on their mental health. Discussions around corporate responsibility also heat up as businesses are scrutinized for their practices that contribute to the financial hardships faced by young consumers. This situation prompts a crucial dialogue about potential solutions, from advocating for fair wages and job access to pushing for sustainable corporate practices. As we unite to address these pressing issues, sharing experiences and strategies will empower us toward creating a more hopeful future.
Our society is problematic in many ways and you listed a huge reason, our economy. It is so hard to save money nowadays when you have to use so much of it towards the essentials. Everything is so freaking expensive!
