Co- parenting W/ a narcissist

💔 Co-Parenting with a Narcissist Changed Me — But It Made Me Stronger 💪

This isn’t the kind of story you dream about when you become a mom. Co-parenting my oldest with a narcissist has been one of the hardest chapters of my life — but also one of the most transformative.

I used to think being a good mom meant staying silent, keeping peace, and giving in for the sake of my child.

Now I know better.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

👊 Boundaries aren’t mean — they’re necessary. I stopped over-explaining, stopped justifying, and started protecting my peace.

🧠 Emotional manipulation is real. Gaslighting made me question everything — but I found my truth again, and I trust my instincts now more than ever.

🩷 My child is watching. Every time I choose calm over chaos, or stand firm in love and not fear, I’m showing my son what strength really looks like.

💬 Documentation over confrontation. I learned to stop arguing and start protecting myself legally and emotionally.

🌱 I found ME again. The version of me who speaks up, who protects her peace, who doesn’t shrink herself for someone else’s comfort.

This journey hasn’t been easy. But I am not the same woman I was before.

I’m stronger.

Wiser.

More grounded.

And the mother my son needs me to be.

To any mom co-parenting with a narcissist — you are not alone, and you’re doing better than you think. 💗

Drop a 💪 below if you’ve been through it too.

... Read moreCo-parenting with a narcissist presents unique challenges that deeply affect emotional well-being and parenting dynamics. Narcissistic personality traits often involve a pervasive pattern of manipulation, lack of empathy, and a strong need for control, which can create toxic co-parenting relationships. Setting firm boundaries is crucial. Narcissists may attempt to dominate or control communication and decision-making about the child. Establishing clear, consistent boundaries helps protect your emotional health and keeps interactions focused on the child's best interests. Avoid over-explaining or justifying decisions, as narcissists often exploit perceived vulnerabilities. Emotional manipulation tactics such as gaslighting—where the narcissist denies or distorts reality—can severely impact self-trust and mental health. It is vital to document all interactions and communications meticulously. This documentation provides legal and emotional support if disputes escalate, ensuring that your rights and the child's well-being are safeguarded. Fostering emotional resilience and self-care is paramount on this journey. Reclaiming your voice and confidence allows you to parent with clarity and strength. Children benefit immensely when they observe calm, loving, and consistent parenting in spite of parental conflicts. Resources such as therapy, support groups, and legal advice tailored to high-conflict co-parenting situations can offer invaluable assistance. Remember, you are not alone in this experience. With perseverance and strategic boundaries, many parents find themselves stronger, more grounded, and better equipped to provide their children with the stability they deserve. In summary, co-parenting with a narcissist demands awareness of manipulative behaviors, unwavering boundary-setting, diligent documentation, and a commitment to personal growth. By focusing on these areas, you protect your peace and create a healthier environment for your child’s development.

I've learned there is no such thing as co parenting when the other parent is a narcissist. I have sole custody because my ex is a narcissist and said in open court he would never co parent with me. working on getting his visitation rights terminated because he's proven time and time again he cant or wont care for the kids on his visitations
