Things I won’t allow with my daughter.

No phone or ipad before 10- children don’t need them! You have toys, the outdoors or hobbies. You have games and other things. Be creative don’t stay glued to that screen!

No Crop Tops- you can still express yourself while being modest. I’m all for self expression, but be modest.

No kid or preteen dating- children under 15-16 have no reason to date. I don’t want my child going through the dramas of middle school dating.

No vaping- it’s harmful to your body and can cause long term non reversible effects.

No boys in room and vise versa- we have a yard, a living room, kitchen and other places. I don’t find your room an appropriate place for hanging out with opposite genders.

No sleepovers until Middle School- children are easily influenced and anything can happen. I’d rather wait until you know right and wrong and what to do if you need me.

No Snapchat until High School- Snapchat can be dangerous and I can’t monitor it properly. Bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct happen and go unnoticed on that app.

All of my rules are flexible and able to be changed with a conversation. If my child can explain why a rule should be changed in a mature way I’ll consider that change. #parentingjourney #singlemom

... Read moreAs a parent navigating the ever-changing challenges of raising a daughter, setting clear boundaries has been vital to foster her growth and keep her safe. The decision to delay screen time until age 10 has truly helped my child develop creativity and social skills beyond digital entertainment. Encouraging outdoor play, hobbies, and games has introduced her to new interests and balanced her day. Modesty in clothing, such as avoiding crop tops, has been my way of promoting self-expression without compromising comfort or appropriateness, which has led to open conversations about confidence and respect. I've also strictly prohibited dating before middle to high school, sparing her the emotional complexities of early relationships. This has helped her focus on friendships and self-development during critical formative years. The no-vaping rule is non-negotiable due to well-documented health risks, and educating her about these dangers has been an empowering experience for both of us. Regarding social interactions, restricting boys from her room ensures transparency and prevents situations that might be difficult to monitor. Similarly, delaying sleepovers until middle school has allowed her to develop stronger judgment and trust in our communication. Social media platforms like Snapchat come with risks such as bullying and inappropriate content exposure. Waiting until high school to allow access has minimized these risks while enabling me to better supervise her online presence. Importantly, while these rules might sound strict, flexibility remains a core principle; if she approaches me with mature reasoning, we discuss potential modifications. This balance between guidance and openness builds trust and helps my daughter learn responsibility. Overall, the combination of clear, reasonable rules and open dialogue has made this parenting journey rewarding. Each family’s approach varies, but prioritizing children’s physical and emotional safety while encouraging their individuality can foster healthier development and a strong parent-child relationship.
