As a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, diving into the world of ROTTNMT (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) Donatello has been an absolute blast. When I decided to create something new in 2024, Donnie was definitely at the top of my list! He's such a standout character, and honestly, what's not to love about our favorite techy turtle from this iteration? ROTTNMT Donnie brings a completely fresh vibe to the Donatello we've known for years. Gone is the traditional bo staff in many instances (though he still has it!), replaced by an array of incredible, often over-the-top, inventions. His battle shell is a fantastic addition, showcasing his genius and providing him with an ever-ready arsenal for any situation. I mean, who else can whip up a device to open a portal to another dimension or create a giant mech suit on the fly? What truly makes ROTTNMT Donnie shine, though, is his personality. He's hilariously sarcastic, a bit socially awkward, and incredibly confident in his own intellectual prowess – sometimes to a fault, which makes for some genuinely funny moments. His dry wit and deadpan delivery are pure gold, often providing much-needed comedic relief even in the most intense situations. I find his struggles with expressing emotions and relying on logic over feelings incredibly relatable, making him feel more human, despite being a mutant turtle! His character arc throughout the show is also something to appreciate. We see him grow, learn to rely more on his brothers (even reluctantly!), and occasionally step out of his comfort zone. It's a joy to watch him invent new gadgets, often narrating their functions with an almost villainous glee, only to have them surprisingly work or spectacularly fail in the best possible ways. His dynamic with his brothers, especially Leo, often provides some of the show's most heartwarming and hilarious interactions. For anyone looking to get into ROTTNMT, Donnie is a fantastic entry point. He embodies the show's unique blend of action, comedy, and character-driven storytelling. His design is sleek and modern, with those iconic goggles and vibrant purple accents, making him instantly recognizable. Whether he's piloting his tank, coding a new defense system, or just trying to navigate a social situation, ROTTNMT Donnie is always entertaining. My 2024 piece was my way of celebrating this truly exceptional version of Donatello, and I hope it encourages more people to appreciate his brilliance!
