Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

... Read moreAfter my amazing first solo birthday trip to Tulum, I know many of you are looking to plan your own unforgettable getaway! It can feel overwhelming, especially if it's your first time navigating a trip to a new country or celebrating a special occasion like a birthday in Tulum. Let me share some insights and tips to help you craft your perfect Tulum itinerary, whether you're planning a quick 3-day escape, a relaxing 7-day vacation, or an extended 10-day adventure. First off, when you're thinking about things to do in Tulum, you're spoiled for choice. One of the absolute must-sees is the Tulum Ruins. Overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea, these ancient Mayan historical sites offer a breathtaking glimpse into the past. It’s a truly unique experience to walk among these structures with such an incredible backdrop. Beyond the ruins, don't miss exploring the refreshing cenotes. These natural swimming holes, like Gran Cenote or Dos Ojos, are perfect for cooling off and offer incredible snorkeling or diving opportunities. And of course, the pristine beaches are calling! Relax on the white sands, try some paddleboarding, or simply soak up the sun. For those planning a birthday in Tulum, consider treating yourself to a special dinner at one of the many fantastic restaurants, or maybe a beachfront massage. Many resorts, much like my experience at Secrets Akumal Rivera Maya, go above and beyond to make celebrations memorable. Speaking of resorts, deciding where to stay is key. Tulum offers everything from boutique eco-lodges to luxurious all-inclusive resorts like Secrets Akumal, known for its beautiful beachfront and excellent service. When planning your Tulum itinerary, think about what kind of traveler you are. For a 3-5 day trip, you might focus on the Tulum Ruins, a couple of cenotes, and plenty of beach time. If you have 7-10 days, you can expand to include day trips to other historical sites like Coba or even Chichen Itza, explore more of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, or dedicate more time to wellness activities. Getting around is fairly easy; once you're arriving at Tulum Airport (or Cancun, which is more common and then a shuttle to Tulum), you can rent a car, use colectivos (shared vans), or taxis. Renting a car gives you the most flexibility to explore at your own pace. Finally, consider the best time to visit. While Tulum in summer is popular, the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds. No matter when you go, pack light, breathable clothing, plenty of sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle. My first solo trip to Tulum was an unforgettable experience, and I hope these tips help you plan your own incredible vacation!

Tulum's taxi 🚕 fare costs are not regulated by meters, so the taxi drivers often make up prices, and the prices that they create are atrocious 😩 Because of this, renting a bike 🚲 or scooter is sometimes the best option to get around the streets of Tulum. I personally booked my bike rental with
