Firstly, I’m excited to try #Olaplex’s styling products. I really like this brand and believe in their patented formula that repairs hair on a deeper, molecular level. When using it on myself (fairly healthy hair), I found it good to incorporate occasionally to strengthen in between masques for hydration, etc. TOO MUCH OF. GOOD THING, IS A BAD THING.
When I used it on my bff (the video on my page where I’m highlighting her hair), it without a doubt assisted with repairing prior damage and anything further that could’ve been caused by using bleach. If you watch the beginning of the video, her curl pattern wasn’t there as much. Using the Olaplex line has brought her curls back and heavily assisted on her hair growth journey.
I will say however, these instructions (like most similar treatments) say to apply prior to washing. There have been debates on if Black people/those with natural hair should follow the rules or not because we tend to use heavy products which would not allow for the hair perfector to do its job. I will say if I know I’m planning on doing this treatment for example, I’ll make sure I’m wearing my hair in a way that requires fewer products leading up to it. For example I’d do a silk press with lightweight products rather than a natural style with creams and gels during the wash day prior to this one.
My favorite products are the clarifying shampoo, hair perfector and bonding oil.
