Healthy Hair Tips 📝

Explanation:

Doing too much - “too much of a good thing is a bad thing” is what I live by. Overdoing treatments, trimming too often, “I never use heat”, “I oil my scalp everyday”, over manipulating, using clarifying shampoo too often, etc

Heat isn’t a bad thing - most stylist will actually recommend the use of heat over air drying for a few reasons. Some people actually find that their hair seems to do better when they heat style. Either way, it’s the excessive heat that’s dangerous. Multiple passes with the flat iron, no heat protectant, reapplying heat days after and most of all not using any moisturizing product before applying heat.

Curls hiding damage - as natural people were typically inclined to do a length check by pulling a curl down and we try to keep the curl pattern in check but occasionally you have to blow it out to see what’s really doing on. Split ends, inconsistent growth and other problems are way easier to else on blown out hair. It doesn’t hurt to go every few months to get your hair blow dried and trimmed at a minimum.

Consistency is key - getting into a regimen of healthy hair habits is how you get the best results with growth or overall health. Your hair needs to be clean, it needs to be moisturized, it needs to be treated, it needs to be trimmed. It’s going to be different for everyone but an example would be: wash day every 2 weeks, clarifying shampoo every 4 weeks*, interchanging treatments every 6-8 weeks (protein, bonding, smoothing), trims every 2-3 months, chemicals every 3-6 months* (relaxer, keratin). Every single wash day should include some form of shampoo, conditioner and leave in at minimum.

* - specific to an individual

Versatility is key - a sneaky cause of damage comes from how we style it. We call it mechanical damage which comes from manipulation and tension. This is why switching up your hairstyle actually matters. Have you seen a curly haired person whose hair pattern isn’t consistent where they typically part it for ponytails? Have you seen someone with their hair straight but the middle is significantly shorter? Have you seen someone who consistently has “protective styles” such as braids but there’s still damage? “Everything in moderation” is important here. Too many slick backs, braids too often, natural styles too often, flat ironing too often — moral of the story: switch it up. It’ll be different for everyone but an example would be: twist out then silk press then braids then ponytail then wash and go then sew in then…you get it.

... Read moreHealthy hair care is crucial for maintaining not just aesthetics but also the overall health of your scalp and hair follicles. Protecting your hair from excessive heat and styling is vital; however, using heat properly can enhance your hairstyle without causing damage. Incorporating a balanced hair care routine will provide your strands with necessary nourishment. Consistency in treatments, such as deep conditioning, is a game-changer. Explore different styling methods to avoid high tension on specific areas, giving your hair a chance to recover. Regular trims prevent split ends and improve hair growth. Natural oils, protein treatments, and moisturizing products can dramatically enhance your hair's resilience against damage. Whether you have curly, straight, or textured hair, adaptability in your styling and treatment methods is key. Remember, moderation is your ally in achieving that luscious, healthy hair you've always wanted!
