ASB / ASM: Is the 5th Really the Best Day to Deposit?
A lot of people believe ASB / ASM has a special “5th of the month” rule.
But that’s not really the key.
What matters more is your average monthly minimum balance and whether the money has actually been successfully credited into your account.
For example, if RM10,000 only enters your account after the new month has already started, that month may already have recorded a lower minimum balance.
So even if you deposit RM10,000 a few days later, it may not fully help that month’s dividend calculation.
A more practical approach:
✅ Deposit as early as possible
✅ Make sure the transaction is successfully completed
✅ Check that the units / balance are already credited
✅ Don’t only look at whether the bank has deducted the money
✅ Be careful with weekends, public holidays and processing time
✅ Avoid withdrawing large amounts during the month if possible
Example only:
RM10,000 × 5.75% = RM575
If only 11 full months are counted, the estimated return may be around RM527.08
That’s already a difference of about RM47.92.
The main takeaway:
There is no magic date.
What matters is getting the money credited early and maintaining your monthly minimum balance.
