I can’t do skincare anymore because my mom caught

2025/12/29 Edited to

... Read moreYou guys, I am still cringing from what happened last night! My mom totally caught me in the bathroom, literally *drowning my face in cleanser*. I know, it sounds dramatic, but I was desperate! You see, I've been struggling with these persistent breakouts, and I saw this video online where someone said if you really lather up and let the cleanser sit, it works magic. Of course, I didn't think too much about it; I just wanted clear skin ASAP. I had my face practically submerged in a mountain of foam, splashing water everywhere trying to rinse it all off, when BAM! The bathroom door swung open and there stood my mom, eyes wide with horror. She took one look at my sudsy, red face and the flooded countertop and just sighed. 'What in the world are you doing to your face?!' she exclaimed, and honestly, I had no good answer. The embarrassment was instant and overwhelming. I felt like a little kid again, caught doing something I knew I shouldn't. She then gave me a whole lecture about wasting product, damaging my skin barrier, and how I need to be more careful. She even threatened to take away all my skincare products if I couldn't use them responsibly. Can you imagine? My precious serums and moisturizers, gone! I tried to explain I was just trying to get rid of my acne, but she just shook her head and said, 'Less is more, sweetie, less is more.' The whole incident felt like a scene right out of a sitcom, but I was definitely not laughing in the moment. It's been a day, and I'm still feeling the sting of getting caught. But beyond the mortification, it really made me think. Maybe I am overdoing it. I've been so focused on 'fixing' my skin that I forgot about being gentle with it. All those viral hacks and quick fixes online? Maybe they're not always the best idea. My face actually felt super tight and dry after all that 'drowning,' which I now know is a sign of an irritated skin barrier. It's not just about getting caught; it's about potentially doing real harm to my skin in the long run. I’ve noticed some extra redness and flakiness today, which is definitely not the ‘glow’ I was going for. So, now I'm trying to reset. I'm going back to basics: a gentle cleanser, a simple moisturizer, and sunscreen. No more extreme experiments! I’m going to properly research ingredients and listen to what my skin actually needs, instead of blindly following trends. This whole episode has been a tough lesson, but hopefully, it'll lead to healthier skin habits. Has anyone else ever been caught by their parents doing something crazy for beauty, or totally messed up their skincare routine trying a viral trend? What did you learn from it? I'd love to hear your stories and any advice you have so I don't feel so alone in this skincare blunder! Hopefully, my mom won't actually ban my entire routine, but I definitely need to prove I can be smart about it.
