Removing my endometrial (uterine) polyp 🩸

Had my surgery last week to remove a polyp in my uterus so thought to share my experience 🫡

Symptoms:

🥲 painful periods (I will have blackouts on the MRT otw to office and breakout in cold sweat)

🥲 my period suddenly became heavier as compared to last time. I had to wear the overnight diapers in the day and it leaked and overflow within hours 💀💀💀

🥲 random spotting even though I am not due to have my period anytime soon

🥲 my anaemia became slightly worse (could be due to blood loss during period)

🏥 did a pelvis ultrasound during my annual health check and the result found out that there might be a polyp in my uterus 😱 recommended to visit a gynae

👨‍⚕️went to a gynae and he confirmed that it's a polyp and recommended me to remove it via surgery. During this visit, I did pre op tests too (blood & urine)

💊Night before surgery: I had to insert a pill and I don't think I inserted it deep enough but I don't think it affects anything so 😂

Day of surgery:

930am: visit the gynae's clinic for admission forms + meds. Admitted myself in the day surgery ward.

1130am: anaesthesiologist came and look at my veins and lucky for me he say they were big HAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣 he still joked around and say the anaesthetic doesn't come from the mask, it's only for TV 😂😂😂

1145am: I changed into the gown and nurse came to push me to the operating theatre (OT). When I entered the OT I was shocked that there were so many people 😂😂😂

I was so abit anxious cause the surgery is through my downstairs and so many people gonna see it 😩😩😩

Surgery:

The anaesthesiologist put a needle in my hand and that was the most painful part tbh 😂 he was asking me if I was sleepy yet and I still say no 😂 Little did I know that was the last memory in the operating theatre 😩😩😩

the next thing I know, someone was calling my name and I woke up 😂 I was like the surgery is over?

The nurses wheeled me into some holding area and let me rest abit first. I was groggy and having cramps 😭😭 and after 10 mins? I was pushed back to my ward.

Was still groggy and having cramps but the post surgery food came quickly too 🥪

After eating sandwich and drinking Milo, I could feel more energised and I was plotting to eat malatang for dinner lmao 😩 I could feel cramps and bleeding like period. They did give me a pad after the surgery but I still stained the bed 💀💀💀💀 feels damn bad 🥲

Could only go home ~4 hours after the surgery and by the time I left it was almost 5pm 😩😩😩

Post surgery:

I did have cramps and continued to bleed for days but it's like period so it's manageable for me 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Didn't do much post surgery care and just lazed around at home reading thriller books on my kobo hahaha.

Had my post surgery review with the gynae and he did an ultrasound and confirmed that the polyp is gone yay 🎉🎉🎉

And as a souvenir, I could have the photo of my polyp 🤣🤣🤣🤣

... Read moreHaving gone through uterine polyp removal myself, I can say the whole process is emotionally and physically challenging but ultimately rewarding. One thing that stood out was how vital pelvic ultrasounds are in detecting these polyps early—even when symptoms can be easily mistaken for common menstrual issues. The worsening anemia from prolonged bleeding was a clear signal that shouldn't be ignored. Preparing for surgery was nerve-wracking, especially since it's done under general anesthesia through the vagina, which made me a bit anxious about privacy and the procedure itself. The funny moments with the anesthesiologist helped lighten the mood, but the needle insertion into the hand was surprisingly the most uncomfortable part! Recovery involved manageable cramps and bleeding similar to an extended period. I found that resting well, avoiding strenuous activity, and keeping myself hydrated were key to feeling better quickly. Reading light novels really helped keep my mind off the discomfort. Follow-up scans confirming the polyp's removal brought much relief, and getting a photo of the polyp was an unusual yet interesting keepsake. For anyone facing this, my advice is to listen to your body’s signals, don’t delay in consulting your gynecologist, and be prepared mentally and physically for the procedure and recovery—knowing what to expect can make a huge difference in easing anxiety and ensuring a smooth healing process.
