This book literally spellbounded me, I did not put this book down. Tracy Deonn put her whole foot up in this book. The drama, betrayal, mystery, and romance of this book left me never wanting to put it down. This book could literally be a whole movie, and I would totally and wholeheartedly watch it to the absolute fullest. This book is an absolute MUST MUST MUST read, she fully captured the underlying racism, and discrimination as well as learning what could happen when a slave owner messes with a slave. This arthurian style book was full of self-discovery and I am so excited for the sequel. I wonder what nick’s dad did to him? Is Sel the male version of Guinevere? Will the regents accept Bree as their new king? Will everyone else? Can’t wait to see what happens next!
🎀Fave Quote🎀: “ Don’t make your life about the loss. Make it about the love.”
... Read moreAfter absolutely devouring 'Legendborn' by Tracy Deonn (seriously, I gave it a full 5 stars!), I've been seeing so many questions pop up, especially about the romance and characters. So, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what makes this book an absolute must-read, beyond just my initial spellbound reaction!
First off, let's talk about the big question: Is Legendborn spicy? While it's not what I'd call 'spicy' in the traditional adult fantasy sense with explicit scenes, it definitely has a deeply compelling and emotional Legendborn romance that will keep you absolutely hooked. The tension, the yearning, the difficult choices – it's all there and beautifully portrayed. Bree's journey involves a love triangle, and *whew*, does it make things interesting! You've got the brooding, mysterious Sel and the charming, steadfast Nick. Their interactions are charged with emotion and loyalty, making every moment count without needing explicit details. It's more about the emotional connection and the tough choices Bree faces, which, for me, was far more impactful.
Speaking of characters, let's unpack Bree and Sel, along with other key Legendborn characters. Bree is a phenomenal protagonist. Her grief is palpable, but her strength and determination shine through as she uncovers her own hidden magic and the secrets of the Legendborn society. Her journey of self-discovery is at the heart of the story, and you can't help but root for her. Sel is the enigmatic, duty-bound Legendborn Scion, and his dynamic with Bree is electrifying. Their push-and-pull, their shared burdens, and their undeniable connection make for some truly memorable moments. While 'Lark Legendborn' isn't a primary character in the series, the ensemble cast, including Nick and the other squires and regents, adds so much richness to the world.
The Legendborn tropes Tracy Deonn plays with are just brilliant. She takes the classic Arthurian legends and re-imagines them with a fresh, modern, and incredibly diverse lens. It's a secret society, chosen one, hidden magic, and a quest for truth, all wrapped in a contemporary urban fantasy setting. The way she tackles deeper themes like racism, discrimination, and inherited trauma through this fantastical framework is powerful and truly thought-provoking. It’s not just a fun read; it's one that makes you think.
Many of you also ask about the Legendborn trilogy. Yes, this gem is part of a series! The sequel, 'Bloodmarked,' continues Bree's incredible story, and I, for one, cannot wait to see where her journey takes her next. The ending of 'Legendborn' leaves you with so many burning questions – like the ones I had in my initial review about Nick's dad, Sel's true identity, and Bree's acceptance by the regents. Knowing there's more to come is incredibly exciting! For those looking for a quick Legendborn recap, imagine a grieving teen discovering a secret Arthurian society at a prestigious university, only to find out she has magic and a destiny tied to ancient legends and a powerful sword that could change everything.
And let's not forget the visuals! The Legendborn book cover is absolutely stunning, and the OCR results mentioning a woman with curly hair and a sword really capture the essence of Bree's strength and the fantasy elements within. It perfectly hints at the adventure and self-discovery awaiting readers. This book is a full package – incredible story, captivating characters, and beautiful presentation. If you haven't picked it up yet, what are you waiting for?!
