GUANGZHOU WHERE TO GO (City x Cultural x Nature)

Today, I’d like to share another one of my Travel recommends, this time in Guangzhou, China, for a 4-5 days trip!

You will find below a list of my must-visit places and tips when visiting that will make your experience more exciting 😜

1. DAFO TEMPLE

✅ ✨ Lights turn on until 11pm each day

✅ We loved the vegetarian buffet (SGD25/pax) but this had the BEST mushroom infused dishes where possible. Highly recommend to bring your family member or friend there who is vegetarian as they will love it as much as I did (despite not being a vegetarian myself! )

2. BEIJING PEDESTRIAN STREET

✅ It’s a long 400-500m walking street with just so many things to see!

✅ Great place to get your souvenirs for friends, family, or colleagues before you leave

3. CANTON TOWER

✅ Visited the Canton tower at night and if you enjoy a night paranomic skyline view, this is the place to go ✨

〽️I personally found this similar to views like Darling Harbour in Sydney, but appreciated the weather and stunning lights

4. MAUSOLEUM OF THE NANYUE KING MUSEUM (MUST VISIT!)

✅ this was special! Loved the museum and the tomb walkabout experience. Highly recommend to visit if you enjoy history and want to know about Guangzhou’s rich past

5. NANYUE KING ROYAL GARDEN SIDE (FREE) - (MUST VISIT! )

✅ ranks 💯 to me in terms cultural experience. This was a full aircon enclosed site of the royal garden back then! Loved it and highly recommend :)

6. YONGQING FANG (FREE)

✅ night scenery was rly stunning, enjoyed a scrumptious bowl of Sesame Paste 芝麻糊 for 8Yuan as well which was a famous store right before entering the vicinity

7. SHAMIAN ISLAND (FREE)

✅ recommend to visit during the day

✅ bonus if you are a Harry Potter fan as there was a Harry Potter themed Starbucks with the interior decked out in Harry Potter sets (their common rooms, Albus dumbledore wall of portraits). Great photo spot 🔱

8. BAIYUN MOUNTAIN (MUST VISIT)

✅ Sense of achievement hiking all the way back down - which was a 20min journey

✅ Popular spot to catch the sunset

🌇 Bonus- many cute cats

Note: I visited the Foshan 祖庙 as well which was a highly recommended place when reading about places to visit, but unfortunately did not enjoy it as much as it was a rather mid to normal experience albeit with its Taoist history-rich culture. But go if you enjoy Lion Dances, Bruce Lee, IP man exhibitions which were rather comprehensive ! Travelling from GZ city is about 1-2h one way which was rather time-tight and tiring for a full day trip (especially if you are travelling with older folks) , so do make sure to prepare in advance.

Enjoy!!! 🔆

... Read moreIf you're planning to explore Guangzhou beyond the highlights I've shared, consider adding the vibrant Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street to your itinerary, especially at night when the street lights bring the market to life with food stalls and local crafts. It’s a fantastic spot to taste authentic Cantonese street food and pick up unique souvenirs. For those interested in more local flavors and cultural immersion, visiting the nearby Badmarket (庙前西街) offers intriguing window shopping with local vendors selling traditional goods. It’s a must-experience bustling street that showcases Guangzhou’s authentic market scene without the usual tourist crowds. When it comes to nighttime activities, aside from the breathtaking Canton Tower, I found the night markets along Shangxiajiu especially charming—offering delightful snacks, vibrant atmospheres, and some of the best people-watching opportunities. On the subject of Opbop and the music scene, Guangzhou has a blossoming nightlife with live music venues where you can catch local bands and artists. It’s a great way to round off your days with some entertainment and a feel of the local vibe. Don’t forget to check the timing for Dafo Temple's light displays to catch the beautiful illuminated night views—it’s worth planning your visit around the evening light-up hours for a magical experience. These additional spots and tips helped me enrich my Guangzhou trip, blending cultural heritage with lively urban explorations—hope they help you make the most out of your travel adventure too!
