There is a study that the average person over the age of 10 dreams about 4-6 times a night.
That’s over 1,460 dreams a year. Here’s the thing, around 95% of dreams are forgotten by the time we wake up because our brains don’t process that it is a dream before we wake up. If we remember details from the dream, it’s because we’ve started to realize it was a dream.
REM sleep cycles usually occur every 1.5 to 2 hours, and the body typically enters REM sleep about 90 minutes after falling asleep. Dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses, and can range from 5 to 20 minutes in length.
I know it may seem a bit longer than that to us. This sounds like I am teaching you, but I have always found dreams and dreaming interesting. I remember someone told me we dream every night when we go to sleep, but there would be times I wake up and not recall dreaming…just darkness.
In 2020, I started a thing where once I wake up I jot down every detail I remember from my dreams as quick I can.
I decided to get myself a dream journal because I miss writing and journaling, and I write faster than I can type. I think it’s also a good way for me to start remembering things in general.
