Big orange
This is known as the Big Orange, and it is located near the town of Berri in South Australia.
It is a 15-meter tall (about 49 feet) structure made of fiberglass over a steel frame. It was built in 1980 to celebrate the Riverland region's history of growing citrus fruits.
What’s Inside?
Even though it looks like just a giant fruit from the outside, it actually has four levels inside:
• Level 1: A function room.
• Level 2: A souvenir shop and a café.
• Level 3: A room with a huge 360-degree mural showing local scenery.
• Level 4: A lookout deck at the very top where you can see all the nearby orchards.
What is its status today?
For many years, the Big Orange was closed and abandoned, which is why it might look a bit lonely in some photos. However, as of 2026, there has been a big push to fix it up. A $1.5 million project was started to turn the site into a craft brewery, distillery, and restaurant.
It’s considered one of Australia's famous "Big Things," which are giant roadside attractions found all over the country to help encourage tourism in small towns.

Although the Big Orange was closed for years, I’m excited about the current restoration plans aiming to bring new life to this landmark. This revitalization will not only preserve the Big Orange but also support community tourism and local businesses.
