How Being A Mom Has Made Me A Better Daughter 💐

*By better I mean in the sense of having an alternative perspective that has enriched how I see my role as a daughter.

HOW DID I GAIN THIS PERSPECTIVE: By becoming a mother myself!

Insights I Have Gained:

1. My Mother, like myself and I’m sure other mothers, had NO IDEA what she was doing - she was only doing the best she could/ knew how.

This is her first time on Earth too! 😭

One day she was a lady who had only herself and her husband to think about, THEN all of a sudden she had to share the responsibility of taking care of a WHOLE. CHILD.

This was a perspective I literally NEVER thought about while I was growing up because she was just.. Mom.

I understood the idea of her having a life before me, but that notion didn’t hit me until I brought my child home and was grieving a life I couldn’t go back to, as I stepped into a life I had 0 experience to fulfill.

(And by 0, I mean 0, My son was the first baby whose diaper I ever changed)

2. Going off of number one, being a mom has also helped me give her more GRACE.

As I child I would have liked to believe she knew everything, but she was still human. Still learning, still growing, still making mistakes, and still experiencing first times and even last times…

🏆 She actually just participated in her first Breast Cancer Awareness walk and completed it under and hour!

I wish she humanized herself a bit more while growing up. Have a better grasp of her high and lows and how she got through the lows would have helped me learn how better on to process life’s happenings. I’m sure this would have also lessened the burden of her trying to make it seem like everything was okay even when it wasn’t ❤️

3. Greater APPRECIATION for the time we spend together!

I am her only daughter, and though I don’t have a daughter of my own, the idea of having a “mini you”who you have poured into for decades is such a precious gift!

I currently live in a different state but I can think of several occasions where my mom has showed up for me:

1. Visited me in North Carolina during an Internship that was Out of my Home State ✈️

2. Stayed in S. Korea for a Week when I Studied Abroad 🇰🇷

3. Was the 1st Person to Visit me in the Hospital After Giving Birth 🍼

SHE DID THAT!!!

I love her so much and really appreciate our journey together, AND the new journey we are on as “LALA” (her grandma name lol) and Toddler Mom!

So heres to us and our future adventures, promise not to take you too far next time!!🤭🥂

... Read moreMotherhood is a transformative experience that can profoundly affect one's perspective on family relationships. From learning to empathize with our parents to understanding their sacrifices, this journey shapes our roles not just as parents but as children too. Many women find that having children helps them appreciate their mothers more fully, realizing the challenges they faced. This shift in perception often leads to deeper connections, as we understand that parenting comes with a steep learning curve, filled with love and mistakes. Sharing experiences, like celebrating milestones together, can enhance our relationships, creating cherished memories. Moreover, participating in special events, like Breast Cancer Awareness walks, unites us in shared purposes and experiences. As a mom, one often reflects on their mother's earlier choices, giving them room for grace and understanding. Having these insights allows for open conversations, nurturing an environment where vulnerability is welcomed. Ultimately, recognizing the trials our parents faced can create stronger family bonds and more meaningful interactions. As we navigate our parenting journey, let's honor our mothers by cherishing the lessons learned and forging a legacy of love and resilience for the next generation.
