I didn't think that I was going to like this book. I was influenced by Booktok and bought the audio book on a whim, but when I started reading (listening) to it I realized that the narrators were not my favorites. (Don't come for me, I know people LOVE Teddy Hamilton, but he's not my favorite.😅)
So I started and then almost immediately stopped it. Buuuut I had already bought it and I kept hearing such good things so I decided to go ahead and give it another try. And I'm so glad I did! I love the MCs dry humor and off the wall comments. I was cackling through the whole thing. I can see why some may not like it, it's kind of slow and the MMCs are possessive and obsessive, but I had a ton of fun with it. Also, as a mom of 2 littles, I completely relate to the lack of coherancy that comes from extreme sleep deprivation. IYKYK.
I'm a vibe reader, and this one matched my vibes. I spent 95% of the book with no idea what was happening but just content to go along for the ride. And once I finished it, I immediately started rereading it again.
... Read moreAfter diving deep into 'Blood of Hercules' by Jasmine Mas, the first book in her captivating 'Villains of Lore' series, I realized there's so much to explore beyond just my initial rereading experience. For those of you who, like me, are drawn in by a striking book cover, I have to say, the visual for 'Blood of Hercules' is truly something special. The golden text on that marble background, entwined with thorny vines and featuring a warrior silhouette, perfectly sets the tone for the dark romance within. It’s the kind of cover that makes you pick up the paperback edition just to admire it!
Many readers, myself included, are always curious about what to expect from a new series. The 'Villains of Lore' series kicks off strong with this novel. If you’re searching for your next dark fantasy romance, this could be it. I’ve seen a lot of discussion around 'Blood of Hercules' tropes, and I can definitely confirm some of the more intense elements. The original story touches on possessive and obsessive male main characters, which is a common draw for fans of the genre. Beyond that, I found elements of enemies-to-lovers (or at least reluctant allies), a strong-willed female lead, and a journey into a richly imagined mythological world. It's not a light read, but the character development and world-building really pulled me in.
Now, let's talk about the 'spice' factor, which is often a hot topic for romance readers. My personal take is that while 'Blood of Hercules' does have its moments, it leans more into the slow-burn category rather than being overtly explicit throughout. I rated it 1/5 for spice in my initial review, meaning it has hints of tension and intimacy, but it's not the primary focus. If you're someone who appreciates the build-up and emotional intensity with spice woven in rather than dominating the plot, you might really enjoy this. For those looking for a comprehensive 'blood of hercules spicy chapters list,' I’d say the book focuses more on the psychological and emotional intensity, with romantic tension building steadily.
Another aspect worth mentioning, especially since I started with the audiobook, is the narration. The 'Blood of Hercules: Villains of Lore, Book 1' audiobook is quite a commitment at nearly 16 hours. I learned from the details that it features narrators like Meg Sylvan and Teddy Hamilton. While I personally had a moment of adjustment, many people absolutely adore these narrators, and their performances can truly enhance the listening experience once you get into the rhythm of the story. It just goes to show how personal our reading and listening preferences can be!
Ultimately, whether you pick up the paperback or dive into the audiobook, 'Blood of Hercules' by Jasmine Mas offers a compelling read for those who enjoy dark fantasy romance with unique characters and a distinctive vibe. It's a book that stayed with me, proving that sometimes, the best reads are the ones you least expect to love and end up rereading immediately.
