🇮🇹Dolomites hiking journal: Seceda 🌞

🥾Stats

Date: 1 Sep 2026

Weather: ☀️🥵

Distance: 11km

Moving time: 3.5h

Elevation: 664m

AllTrails route: Seceda - Malga Pieralongia - Firenze Hut - Baita Troier

Difficulty: moderate

Pre hike preparation: buy Seceda cable car tickets up/down online (74€💸), we got the earliest one at 8.30am, no regrets!

It was pretty cold in the morning so I started the hike with my jacket. We did the route as recommended by the AllTrails app so it started with a short ascend to Seceda summit. We paid 5€ to enter for closer view of Seceda. No comments on whether worth it or not 🤣 for me, idk when I will return so I’ll pay - we took lots of photos and spent quite a bit of time there.

The first 6km of the hike is a descent. Some parts are gentle and some are steep. Many were not using hiking poles but I found them useful! My fav part was the rock formations following trail 2B near Malga Pieralongia Alm at Pieralongia. Apparently, this is a popular photo spot!

After about 7km, we stopped at Rifugio Firenze - Regensburgerhütte for lunch and the schnitzel was soooo good! The last part of the hike was non stop ascent and I was like a 🐢 climbing up 🤣. The blazing sun didn’t help at all - my hiking hat from Montbell is a legit life saver omg.

Overall, this hike is moderate but it felt hard for me because I was sick with sore throat. My husband said it was an easy one for him 😒 I later had fever back at the accoms 😭 but I’m so so happy to have completed the trail and took so many photos for memories. Seceda is truly a beauty. As I’m typing this, I’m expecting to hike Tre Cime tomorrow - I wonder which one will be nicer 🤩 so excited! I hope I will be fully recovered for tomorrow.

... Read moreEmbarking on the Seceda hike in the Dolomites is truly an unforgettable experience that combines physical challenge with extraordinary natural beauty. One thing I learned from this trail is the importance of preparation, especially securing your cable car tickets in advance since they can be pricey (€74) but save you significant time and energy. Starting early is a major advantage—the cool morning air makes the initial ascent comfortable before the sun rises higher and temperatures soar. In fact, dressing in layers is key as the weather can shift quickly; I found beginning with a jacket helped with the chilly start, but it’s best to be ready to shed it as the hike warms up. The descent from Seceda summit offers varied terrain, from gentle slopes to steeper sections. I highly recommend bringing hiking poles even if many don’t, as they provide stability and reduce fatigue, especially on the steep parts and uneven rock formations near Malga Pieralongia Alm, which is a must-see photo spot. Taking breaks and enjoying the local mountain huts like Rifugio Firenze is part of the charm. Their schnitzel is delicious and a great refuel mid-hike. Don’t underestimate the physical demand of the final ascent—sometimes slow and steady wins the race, especially under a blazing sun! A quality hiking hat (like mine from Montbell) and sun protection are essentials. On a personal note, hiking while feeling under the weather adds an extra layer of difficulty, but pushing through gave me a sense of accomplishment and lots of memorable photos of the breathtaking Seceda panorama. Whether you're an experienced hiker or a moderate trekker, this trail offers a rewarding journey through one of Italy’s most beautiful mountain ranges. If you plan to explore further, consider the Tre Cime hike next—both trails provide distinct and stunning perspectives of the Dolomites. Stay hydrated, pace yourself, and soak in the vibrant alpine scenery—you won’t regret it!

Is visiting the Dolomites really that expensive?
The answer sadly is…yes if you want to conquer all the famous tourist attractions during high season in summer 🥺 the chairlifts/cable cars and parking can add up to quite a lot - for example, reserving a parking space at Tre Cime for the hike is 40 euros (that is about 60 sgd), which is essenti

should you visit lago di sorapis in dolomites?
hands down the MOST gorgeous hike we've been on in the dolomites 🥹 this is a lake hidden 2 hours deep within the mountains and it feels so much more special knowing that you have to hike through the rocky terrains just to be able to see this beauty ❤️ had so much fun hiking this trail too!!
