You should collect this post if you plan to visit Hangzhou, China. When I visited Hangzhou, it felt like half the young people in Hangzhou hang out around Longxiangqiao and Fengqi Road. You’ll find tons of trendy restaurants in this area, including this popular local spot, West Lake Verse (Xiziyu), tucked away inside a mall right by Longxiangqiao Metro Station. Great vibes, perfect for catching up with friends, and the set meals are super budget-friendly!

🥩 Spring Water Beef (The one I was most excited for)
The name sounds poetic, and the taste? Super mild. The beef is tender for sure, but not really seasoned. If you’re into light flavors, you’ll enjoy it, but for strong flavor lovers… it was missing that punch 😅
🍖 Sweet & Sour Pork
Small portion, classic Jiangnan sweetness. A bit too sweet for someone trying to cut sugar (me 😳), but the texture was crispy and really well done.
🥬 Cold Mixed Double Bamboo Shoots
Honestly not sure where the “double” comes from, but it was light and refreshing. Helped cut through all the heavier dishes and balanced out the sweetness.
🦆 Hangzhou Braised Duck
Super rich and flavorful with a strong soy-based aroma. Tempting at first, but definitely something to enjoy in moderation—great in a few bites, but not something I’d finish a whole plate of just by myself.
🍜 Yangchun Noodles (Eat this ASAP!)
We were chatting for too long and the noodles clumped together 😂 It’s basically soy sauce tossed noodles, really simple, but oddly nostalgic and comforting.
🍹 Green Kumquat Iced Lime Tea
Refreshing and not too sweet, but probably still has a fair amount of sugar… I just had a few sips and called it a day 🙈
🍮 Longjing Tea Milk Jelly (Great finisher)
Chilled, bouncy, and a lovely mix of tea and milk flavors—like a duet of sweet and mellow. Delicious, but also one of those desserts best enjoyed in small bites.

Personally, the flavors didn’t all hit the mark for me—maybe a bit of “taste culture shock”—but the overall experience was interesting and memorable. Definitely worth a try if you’re curious about the local Hangzhou-style flavors!
