... Read moreVisiting the Peranakan Museum to participate in the Peacock Power exhibition offers a unique, hands-on experience for all ages. The layered stamps scattered across Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 provide a fun way to explore the themes of dignity, beauty, and nobility symbolized by the peacock in Peranakan culture. Each stamp is part of a special illustration that represents the museum’s rich heritage and collection. Starting from Level 3, visitors can collect different motifs by pressing embossed stamps onto their activity papers, which creatively mimic the repoussé metalwork technique used in traditional Peranakan peacock belts. This embossing process lets you feel a connection to history by recreating the intricate peacock and floral patterns with your own hands. The activities don’t stop at stamping. Visitors can also assemble and color their own 3D peacock models, enriching their understanding of the peacock’s importance not only as a symbol of beauty but also as a figure in cultural stories of attraction and protection. The vibrant peacock mural invites everyone to add their own feather, creating a collaborative piece that grows throughout the exhibition’s duration. A particularly exciting aspect is that Singaporeans enjoy free access on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a perfect weekend outing for families, friends, or solo cultural explorers. After completing the stamping journey and filling in a brief survey, you can redeem a free sticker sheet as a memorable keepsake. While the author missed out on the activity booklet reward, it's definitely worth seeking out for those who want to fully embrace the experience. Overall, this exhibition combines educational elements with creative activities, making it both informative and delightfully interactive. It’s an excellent example of how museums today are encouraging visitor participation to deepen engagement with cultural heritage. For anyone interested in Singapore history, traditional art techniques, or looking for a fun and meaningful day out, the Peacock Power exhibition at the Peranakan Museum is a must-visit. Don't forget to tag your experience on Instagram @peranakanmuseum to share your colorful peacock creations and stamping achievements!
