Alleyway japanese hidden gem

i’ve been seeing this spot all over my feed so I had to try it for myself! ☺️

@konban_nyc is a newly opened japanese restaurant that is hidden down an alleyway in chelsea, and it has been blowing up the internet as the best pork katsu in NYC. We had an amazing meal there, tried a bunch of really unique small plates that were very detailed in their flavor palate and plating. 🥘

personal favs were the corn rib, sabazushi sushi roll, mentaka noodles, and tenderloin katsu! everything was soo good though, and it all worked together really well together. 🌽

final verdict: the pork katsu was great (but did not blow my mind) however i LOVED the overall meal and would for sure go back. ❤️

ft.

- tenderloin katsu (I liked this one better!)- $14

- pork loin katsu - $16

- sabazushi (mackerel) - $17

- uni shari - $24

- konban corn rib - $12

- eggplant agebitashi - $14

- niku udon - $20

- mazemen udon - $16

- corn icecream - $12

... Read moreSince my visit to Konban, I've had so many friends ask me for more details, so I wanted to share some extra tips to make your experience at this hidden gem Japanese restaurant Konban truly unforgettable! Finding Konban is part of the adventure – tucked away down a Chelsea alleyway, it truly lives up to its "hidden gem" status. Don't be shy about looking for it; the thrill of discovery adds to the charm. Once you step inside, you're transported to a cozy, inviting space that feels a world away from the bustling NYC streets. While Konban is getting famous for its pork katsu, let me tell you, their small plates are where they truly shine and offer some of the most unique Japanese flavors I've found in the city. Beyond the katsu, which is indeed fantastic (the tenderloin katsu remains my personal favorite!), you absolutely have to try the Konban Corn Rib. It’s an unexpected star – sweet, savory, and perfectly charred. Another standout for me was the Sabazushi sushi roll; the mackerel was incredibly fresh, and the presentation was artful. The Mentaka Noodles also offer a delightful umami kick that you won't easily forget. It's not just a katsu spot; it's a culinary journey through innovative Japanese small plates. For those wondering about practicalities like 'Konban hours' or how to grab a table, a pro tip: reservations are highly recommended, especially for dinner and on weekends. This spot is popular for a reason! They do offer walk-in availability, but to avoid disappointment, securing a reservation in advance is your best bet. While I didn't visit during 'Konban Restaurant Week', keep an eye out for special menus or offers during NYC's Restaurant Week events – many fantastic restaurants participate, and it’s a great way to sample a wider range of dishes at a fixed price. It's always worth checking their official website or social media for the most up-to-date information on operating hours and any special events. Regarding the vibe, if you're curious about 'Konban NYC photos', imagine a dimly lit, intimate setting perfect for a date night or a relaxed meal with friends. The decor is minimalist yet elegant, letting the food take center stage. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and happy to guide you through the menu, making the experience even more enjoyable. For anyone looking to explore the vibrant 'little Japan New York' food scene, Konban offers a refreshing, modern take that stands out from more traditional establishments. It’s a testament to the diverse and evolving Japanese culinary landscape in NYC. Don't just go for the viral katsu; go for the whole experience, from the moment you find this alleyway surprise to the last bite of their incredible corn ice cream!
