Flower earrings
It’s a snow day today! What I am making these beautiful flowers were preserved from my last spring garden. Making them into beautiful summer earrings. I will keep you guys posted on the finish product.
It's such a joy to bring a piece of my garden indoors, even on a snow day! I've been absolutely loving the process of making earrings with the flowers from my garden. There's something so special about transforming those vibrant blooms into wearable art. If you've been wondering how to make flower earrings yourself, you're in for a treat because it's a wonderfully rewarding DIY project. The first step, and one of the most crucial, is having beautifully preserved flowers. I usually press or dry my garden flowers throughout the spring and summer, so I have a lovely stash ready for crafting projects like these. If you're new to this, simple pressing between heavy books for a few weeks works wonders! Once your flowers are perfectly flat and dry, the real fun begins. Here's a quick rundown of what you'll typically need to get started on your own garden flower earrings: Preserved flowers: Your stars of the show! Resin kit: Look for a clear, jewelry-grade epoxy resin. Don't forget mixing cups and stir sticks. Silicone molds: Earring-specific molds in various shapes (teardrop, circle, square) are perfect. Earring findings: This includes jump rings, earring hooks (hypoallergenic if possible), and maybe some headpins if you're adding beads. Jewelry pliers: Round-nose and flat-nose pliers are essential for opening and closing jump rings. Drill bit (tiny): For making a small hole in your resin pieces if the mold doesn't have one. Tweezers or a toothpick: Handy for positioning your delicate flowers. Now, for the 'how-to'! I usually start by carefully selecting and arranging my dried flowers within the silicone molds. This is where your creativity truly shines! I like to play around with different flower combinations and colors. Once I'm happy with the layout, I mix my two-part epoxy resin according to the package instructions. It's super important to measure accurately and mix thoroughly to ensure a proper cure. Next, I pour a thin layer of resin into the mold, just enough to cover the bottom. Then, using my tweezers, I gently place my preserved flowers from my garden onto this layer. Sometimes, I'll add a second, slightly thicker layer of resin over the flowers to fully embed them and create that beautiful, glossy dome effect. Be patient during this step and try to pop any tiny bubbles that rise to the surface using a toothpick or a heat gun on a very low setting. I let the resin cure for the recommended time, usually 12-24 hours, in a dust-free environment. Once fully cured and hard, I carefully demold my beautiful resin pieces. The final touch is attaching the earring hardware. I typically use a tiny drill bit to make a small hole at the top of each resin piece, then I attach a jump ring and an earring hook using my jewelry pliers. Voila! You've just created a unique pair of summer earrings that carry memories of your garden. It’s truly satisfying to wear something you've crafted yourself. Give it a try, and let your garden inspire your next jewelry masterpiece!
