Nobody taught me how to be lonely

They told me moving abroad would be exciting.

That I’d have new experiences, meet new people, try new foods.

And they were right… but they forgot to mention the other side of the story.

No one told me how it would feel to leave behind friends who have known me since I was a kid.

To hug them goodbye at the airport and not know when I’ll feel their arms around me again.

To sit in a new room, in a new country, surrounded by new people, and feel completely alone.

To scroll through photos of nights out back home while I’m just… trying to figure out what aisle the pasta is in.

No one explained that “starting over” isn’t always glamorous.

It’s crying in a supermarket because nothing feels familiar.

It’s pretending to be fine on FaceTime while your heart aches in silence.

It’s celebrating birthdays without the people who know how you like your cake.

But somewhere along the way, you start to adapt.

You find comfort in the chaos.

You discover strength you didn’t know you had.

You find new people who slowly become part of your story.

You become someone who carries two worlds inside, one you came from, and one you’re still learning to belong to.

This post is for anyone who’s ever had to start over, for anyone who’s ever felt a little lost in a new place.

You’re not alone. And you’re doing better than you think😭❤️

... Read moreMoving to a new country can be exhilarating yet daunting. Many people romanticize the idea of starting fresh, failing to mention the emotional toll of leaving loved ones behind. The bittersweet nature of change can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation. It's not just about finding your way in a new environment, but also about reconciling your past with your present. When you’re in unfamiliar territory, it’s common to feel like a stranger in your own life. As you navigate new experiences, the silence surrounding you can be deafening, revealing a longing for those close connections you once took for granted. The struggle often lies in the unexpected moments of homesickness, whether it's celebrating milestones without familiar faces or missing out on shared memories. Allow yourself to feel these emotions; they are valid and part of the journey. Embrace the chaos as you meet new people, and slowly piece together a new sense of belonging. Over time, you'll find strength in your ability to adapt, creating new memories while cherishing the old ones. Remember, it's okay to carry both worlds within you, as this duality will ultimately shape your unique narrative. Your experience is a testament to your resilience, and even amid loneliness, you are growing. You are not alone; we are all in this together, each navigating our own paths while learning to cherish the beauty of new beginnings.
