Having two young children, especially a threenager and a two-year-old, is like living in a whirlwind of emotions and surprises every single day. From my experience, the key to surviving those unpredictable tantrums is preparation and patience. When my little ones start showing signs of frustration or when I can sense a meltdown coming, I try to offer them choices, which helps them feel some control. For example, letting them pick between two snacks or which shirt to wear can sometimes diffuse a brewing tantrum. Another strategy I've found useful is keeping routines predictable. Even though toddlers thrive on routine, they also test limits intensely during these years, so consistency in daily schedules, mealtime, and bedtime helps ground them—and me! When things get tough, I sometimes turn to simple distraction techniques like reading a favorite book or heading outside for a quick change of scenery. It's also important to remember that these intense emotions are a normal part of development. Our kids are learning to navigate the world and their feelings, which is often overwhelming for them. As hard as it can be, responding with empathy rather than frustration helps build their emotional resilience. Lastly, sharing these experiences with other parents through social media tags like #toddlermom and #momvlog has been a helpful community for advice and solidarity. Remember, you’re not alone in this challenging but rewarding stage of parenting!
