Song of Songs Bible study

I read the entire chapter of Song of Songs. Make sure you read the Bible on your time & pray for understanding & discernment. Here is what I learned:

• Written believe by Solomon (some believe it has multiple writers, idk tho, seems like Solomon to me)

• this book is about a woman & a man who later become husband & wife. It shows how marriage is.

• these desires are given by God for the blessing of His people. As Christian’s we should embrace sexual intimacy in the context of Marriage.

• presents an ideal picture of love & sexual intimacy fulfilled in the context of marriage.

• (ch1:1-4) the woman yearns for her man’s affection. Describes him as a king. “ perfume poured out” is likely speaking about his reputation.

• The woman’s friends are giving her positive advice (vs4)

• (ch1:3-8) the woman is tan because she works all day in the sun. Back then being tan is a sign of being a laborer/worker. Because her brothers made her work out in the sun, she didn’t take much care of herself, or her body.

• (ch1:9-17) the man admires her. She is highly esteemed in his eyes.

(ch2):

• verdant = fertile, ready to have children

• the woman believes she is common. Shows her insecurities in herself

• to the man no one compares to her. He sees her as the most attractive

• he made his declaration of love for her in the public

• wait until marriage to awaken love.

• Solomon is waiting for this woman

• vs11-13 describes marriage as a new season in life.

• vs15: they both desire each other but there are dangers (foxes) that need to be addressed. In a marriage problems, any traumas, etc need to be addressed before getting married

• vs16: shows the woman’s devotion for her man.

Ch3:

• she is dreaming and she fears losing her man (in this dream she ends up losing him) in her dream she went out to look for him

• wait until marriage to make love to your husband

• vs4: they get married

•vs1-7: the husband praises the brides beauty. He is in awe of her. He has passion for her

Ch5:

• sexual intimacy is between husband and wife. They have consumed (sex) their marriage

• later on it shows that their desire for intimacy is not aligned- he wants her but at the moment she doesn’t want him. She has a dream and she fears being exposed - again, insecurity.

This shows that there may be insecurities, and trails in marriage as you go.

Ch6:

• the husband praises his wife for her strength & dignity

• the husband shows a deep appreciation for her character - shows how much they have grown together

Ch7:

• The passage shows them being intimate as husband & wife. He enjoys his wife. He indulges in her. Sexual delight in marriage.

Ch8:

• the wife wants her husband to always long for her & to be mindful of her love.

• “seal on your arm” shows ownership, she wants everyone to know that’s her man.

• “ loves flames are fiery flames, an almighty flame!” shows Gods love.

• vs8-9 talks about the little sister who is still a girl. This represents chastity & to be reserved until it’s time to get married.

Like the wife loves her husband, Gods convenient love for His people is as “strong as death”, which is jealous & unquenchable

This chapter provides the appreciation of a godly character & verbal expression in order to have sexual intimacy (in marriage only). Also describes how marriage can be with insecurities & trials.

It is an encouragement for woman & for men.

... Read moreThe Song of Songs, traditionally attributed to Solomon, illustrates the beauty of love and intimacy between a husband and wife. This poetic text emphasizes the importance of sexual intimacy as a divine blessing, meant to be celebrated within the sanctity of marriage. Each chapter vividly describes the relationship dynamics, with the female protagonist expressing her longing for her partner and highlighting the insecurities that may arise. Key themes include waiting until marriage to awaken love, the celebration of physicality, and the importance of communication in addressing marital challenges. In Chapter 1, the woman yearns for romantic affection, while in Chapter 2, the declarations of love are publicly made—a strong message about the visibility and acknowledgment of love. The imperative to address any potential obstacles in a relationship before marriage is highlighted, suggesting that unresolved issues can pose 'foxes' threatening the garden of love. Beyond romantic love, the book showcases God’s unwavering love for His people. The imagery of the 'seal' emphasizes commitment, reminding readers to value their relationships and remain steadfast in devotion. As you study the Song of Songs, remember its call to embrace both the beauty and challenges of marriage, fortifying your relationship with trusting communication and mutual respect.
