... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my last post, I wanted to dive a little deeper into how I approach Bible journaling, especially when tackling a whole book like Colossians. You might have seen my page for Colossians 1:13-14, and I truly believe creative expression helps these powerful truths sink in and makes studying the "book of Colossians bible page" so much more engaging!
That verse, Colossians 1:13-14 – “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” – is just so profound. For me, sketching celestial bodies on that page helped me visualize that cosmic shift—moving from spiritual darkness into God's incredible light. It’s not just about creating pretty pictures; it’s about letting the truth transform my perspective and remind me that Jesus set me free. This verse is such a cornerstone of our freedom in Christ, and taking the time to illustrate it really cemented its meaning in my heart.
When I'm journaling through a book like Colossians, I often look for key themes and powerful verses that resonate with me. Beyond Colossians 1:13-14, the entire book emphasizes the supremacy of Christ and our new life in Him. Think about verses like Colossians 3:1-2: “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” How powerful is that to illustrate? Perhaps drawing a ladder reaching to the heavens, or focusing on what it means to be God's MASTER PIECE as Ephesians 2:10 reminds us. These are all amazing concepts for visual notes!
For practical journaling tips within Colossians, I suggest:
Verse Selection: Don't feel you have to journal every single verse. Pick out those that challenge you, comfort you, or spark a visual idea. For instance, Colossians 3:12-14 talks about putting on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience—what imagery comes to mind for these qualities?
Artistic Inspiration: If you're not a natural artist, don't worry! Simple doodles, symbols, or even just creative lettering can be incredibly impactful. For Colossians 1:13-14, I used celestial bodies to depict the transition. For phrases like taste and see the Lord is good from Psalm 77:7 (another favorite journaling page of mine!), you could draw food items or a person tasting something delicious. The goal is personal connection, not perfection.
Tools: You don't need fancy supplies. A few colored pens, highlighters, and perhaps some simple Bible tabs to quickly find your favorite passages are more than enough to get started. Sometimes, just writing out the verse in a beautiful font is enough.
The benefits of journaling through Colossians, or any book of the Bible, are immense. It helps with deeper meditation, aids in memorization, and creates a personal connection to the text that traditional reading sometimes misses. It also leaves you with a visual record of your faith journey. It’s a wonderful way to combat feelings of being weighed down, as Proverbs 12:25 observes that ANXIETY weighs down the Heart, but A KIND WORD cheers it UP!, and journaling can be that kind word to your own soul.
I hope this gives you some fresh ideas for exploring the amazing book of Colossians through journaling. Remember, it’s about making God’s Word personal and letting it speak to you creatively. You are altogether beautiful my darling; there is NO FLAW in you (Song of Songs 4:10), so don't be afraid to express your faith uniquely!
