US Halloween Costume ✂️

If you're a fan of Jordan Peele's masterful horror films, then you know the iconic power of the 'Us' movie costumes! This year, my friends and I decided to embody the eerie elegance of the Tethered, and it was an absolute blast to put together. It's truly one of those costumes that gets instant recognition and a few chills! Finding Your Perfect Red Jumpsuit: The cornerstone of this costume is, of course, the dark red jumpsuit. We spent some time looking, and found that online retailers specializing in workwear or even flight suits had the best options. You want something that has a slightly utilitarian feel, but still comfortable enough for a night of trick-or-treating or a Halloween party. Burgundy or a deeper crimson works perfectly if a true dark red is hard to find. Don't be afraid to size up for that slightly baggy, uniform look that makes the Tethered so distinct. Thrift stores can also be a goldmine for these! The Essential Accessory: Large Silver Scissors: No 'Us' costume is complete without the menacing large silver scissors. Safety first, of course! We opted for prop scissors, which you can find at most Halloween or novelty stores. They look incredibly realistic without any risk. The gleam of the silver against the dark red jumpsuit really makes the whole ensemble pop and instantly communicates your character. Transforming with Hair & Makeup: This is where you can really bring the 'Tethered' to life! Eyebrows: One of the most striking features is their unsettling gaze, often accentuated by light-colored eyebrows. We achieved this by using a generous amount of concealer to lighten our natural brows, then setting it with a translucent powder. It creates a slightly bleached, almost absent look that adds to the creepy factor. Hair: The Tethered have various distinct hairstyles. For one of us, we went with braided hair, pulled back tightly to mimic the character of Red. For the other, we embraced natural dark, curly hair, letting it frame the face in a slightly wild, untamed way, similar to the character of Adelaide's double. Wigs are also a fantastic option if you want a specific look without styling your own hair. Overall Look: We kept our makeup minimal but focused on a slightly pale foundation to give that 'underground' vibe. A little smudged eyeliner can add to the intensity of the eyes, but avoid anything too glamorous. The key is unsettling simplicity. Final Touches & Posing: Complete your look with some dark, sturdy boots or sneakers. Gloves can also add an extra layer of authenticity. But beyond the clothes, it's all about the posture! The slightly stiff, almost synchronized movements of the Tethered are what truly sell the costume. Practice standing still, looking intensely, and moving with purpose. Putting together this 'Us' movie costume was more than just dressing up; it was an homage to a brilliant film and a genuinely fun creative project.
