Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine is located on a small mountain in Kaharu-cho, Tagawa-gun ⛩️
It is said that it was founded about 850 years ago by Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo, who built Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura.
The enshrined deities are Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu, and Tamayorihime no Mikoto. It has been deeply revered as a guardian deity of the area since ancient times ✨

Beyond 850 years, the horse of faith still runs
「鶴岡八幡宮の歴史」を知るうえで大事なのが、“八幡信仰が各地へ広がっていった流れ”だと感じました。鎌倉の鶴岡八幡宮は源頼朝ゆかりの神社として有名ですが、実は全国に「鶴岡八幡（神社）」の名を持つ社が点在していて、各地で「勧請（かんじょう）」＝神様の御分霊を迎えることで、地域の守り神として根づいていった背景があります。 香春町の鶴岡八幡神社も、その“広がり”を体感できる場所。伝承では鎮西八郎為朝が鎌倉の鶴岡八幡宮を勧請して創建したとされ、約850年の時間の厚みを感じます。境内は小高い山の上にあり、参道を上がるにつれて空気がすっと静かになる感覚がありました。看板や写真にあった「駆ける矢の音。歴史を射抜く一矢」という言葉が、実際の雰囲気にぴったり。 八幡神といえば一般的に応神天皇を中心とした信仰で、武運・厄除け・地域守護のイメージが強いです。香春町の鶴岡八幡神社でも、応神天皇・神功皇后・玉依姫命が祀られていて、家族の節目や地域の行事で大切にされてきたことが伝わってきました。こうした“地域の生活に寄り添う守り神”という性格も、鶴岡八幡宮の歴史（＝武家だけの話ではなく、民間へも広がった信仰）を理解するヒントになると思います。 そして、ここで特に印象的なのが秋の例大祭（宮日祭）の流鏑馬神事。馬が境内を駆け抜け、放たれる矢が的へ向かう一瞬は、写真で見るよりずっと迫力があります。「信仰の馬が今も駆ける」という表現は本当にそのままで、儀式というより“生きた伝統”を見ている感覚でした。御神輿の巡幸と流鏑馬が同時に行われるのが珍しい点も含めて、歴史を“体験”として味わえる貴重な機会です。 行くなら、例大祭の時期（10月上旬）を狙うのもおすすめですが、普段の参拝も十分に価値があります。静かな境内で由緒を読みながら歩くと、「鶴岡八幡宮の歴史」が遠い教科書の話ではなく、各地の土地に根づいた物語として感じられました。
