Lavender simple syrup🪻
I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with homemade syrups, and lavender simple syrup is one of my favorites because it adds a floral twist to classic drinks. When making lavender syrup, using fresh lavender really makes a difference in flavor and aroma. Be sure not to over-simmer the lavender; around eight minutes is ideal to extract the essence without developing a soapy aftertaste, which can happen if the lavender is left in the syrup too long. I find using pure cane sugar important because it dissolves smoothly and doesn’t overpower the delicate lavender flavor. After simmering the sugar and water with lavender, removing the lavender sprigs promptly is key. Let the syrup cool completely before storing it in a clean glass jar. This simple syrup can stay fresh in the refrigerator for three to four weeks, making it convenient to have on hand. One of my favorite ways to use lavender syrup is in margaritas. It adds a subtle floral note that pairs beautifully with the lime and tequila. Just replace some or all of the simple syrup in your margarita recipe with lavender syrup for a refreshing twist. Beyond margaritas, it’s also delightful in iced teas, lemonades, and sparkling water for a light, fragrant addition. This homemade lavender syrup is a versatile and elegant ingredient that elevates your drink game effortlessly.
