"Life is a lot like baking—things don’t always go as planned, but that doesn’t mean they’re ruined."

I set out to make soft, pillowy bread machine buns, dreaming of a golden-brown finish. But in a classic kitchen mishap, I forgot my oven was still set to BROIL on HIGH from an earlier dish. 😬🔥

In seconds, my beautifully risen buns were extra toasted—let’s call it “artisan dark brown.” My heart sank. Had I ruined them?

Instead of tossing them, I flipped them over, lowered the temp, and gave them a second chance. And guess what? They turned out unexpectedly great—crispy on one side, soft and fluffy on the other.

· It reminded me how life works the same way: Sometimes things go sideways, but mistakes don’t mean failure, they mean new possibilities.

You may not always get the outcome you planned, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get something worthwhile. Whether it’s baking, chasing a goal, or navigating life’s twists and turns—don’t write off the "burnt buns" just yet! With a little patience, they might turn into something even better. 😉

Bread Machine Buns

Ingredients:

· 1/2 Cup warm water

· 1/2 Cup warm milk

· 1/3 Cup melted butter

· 1 egg

· 1/3 Cup sugar

· 3 3/4 Cup bread flour (all purpose will work too)

· 1 Tsp salt

· 2 1/4 Tsp instant yeast or 1 packet of instant yeast

Instructions:

· Add your ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order listed. Dry ingredients go last.

· Then, press the ‘dough’ setting on your bread machine.

· When the dough cycle is complete, take the dough out of the machine and place it on a floured countertop.

· Divide the dough into 6 sections larger buns or 12 sections for smaller buns.

· Shape each section into a disk shape.

· Allow the buns to Rise for 30 minutes.

· Preheat oven to 350. Brush buns with an egg wash (1 TBSP WATER, 1 EGG, lightly whisked)

· Cook buns for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
