From personal experience, I’ve noticed that many beachgoers overlook these warning signs, which can lead to dangerous situations, particularly during unpredictable weather. The flags are designed to communicate current water conditions quickly and effectively. For example, a red flag indicates high hazard due to strong surf or currents, meaning swimming is unsafe. I’ve learned the hard way that even when the weather is sunny and inviting, the ocean’s power can be deceptive. Another key safety tip is to only swim in areas supervised by lifeguards. During one beach visit, I saw a situation where a swimmer was caught in a sudden rip current and was rescued promptly by a nearby lifeguard—a reminder that their presence saves lives.
