Random thoughts about Lemon8 algorithm

I post often on social media but I actually don’t scroll that much.

I dk how people can spend hours on TikTok or IG reels, or jumping across social media platforms to browse many things.

I think my attention span is too short hahahah.

I am often on Instagram, but also here on Lemon8 occasionally because I would post here.

What I didn’t notice is that after ‘merging’ with TikTok, Lemon8 algorithm for my feed has really been very poor.

That is what inspired this post, just randomly sharing some posts that I often skipped hahaha.

Nothing personal against anyone!! Just my own preferences:

‘Old’ posts.

Any posts that were posted more than a few weeks ago, I would skip hahaha. Perhaps it is due to me knowing creators come and go very quickly in Lemon8, so such older posts made me feel like they are easily “outdated”.

Any posts with numbers.

“$100k by 30” // “3x my income” // “$5k to $50k”

It just screams humble brag, I cannot hahaha.

I mean I am happy for them, but a part always feel like such sharing can be done without mentioning the numbers.

If you choose to do it, there is probably an element of boasting hahah.

‘Side income’ or ‘passive income’ posts.

I am doing my own side hustle on and off so I understand the hustle!!

But for a lot of such passive income thing, I feel like the catch is often there.

Perhaps because I was in a MLM (multi level marketing) one, my cautious level is up up hahaha. Another story about this another day!

“Hello get to know me” posts.

I honestly think such posts are spam or scam. Especially those with great face cards kind.

I mean, why would such good looking people outright ask people to know themselves sia. Hahaha.

And also, the crowd following such accounts is often weird too. Not my vibe.

“Insurance” posts.

My this post summed up why so hahaha.

Once again, disclaiming that this is my personal take, not trying to downplay anybody.

I really hope Lemon8 improves their algorithm though hahah.

As always, follow for more random thoughts!

... Read moreFrom my experience using Lemon8 since its merge with TikTok, I've noticed that the algorithm significantly affects how content is served to users, often favoring newer, trending posts over older ones. This shift can be a double-edged sword: while fresh content keeps the feed dynamic, it sometimes sidelines quality posts that are a few weeks old but still relevant. Additionally, I’ve observed a pattern with posts boasting specific numbers, like income milestones or side hustle earnings. These often seem like humble brags or can come across as less genuine, which affects my engagement. This is a common feeling among users who prefer authentic storytelling without numeric comparisons. Another area to consider is the prevalence of posts about side income or passive income opportunities on Lemon8. While side hustles are popular, there's a healthy skepticism due to the potential for hidden catches or MLM involvements. This makes it important for users to critically assess such content before engaging. 'Get to know me' posts also tend to feel less authentic, sometimes coming across as spammy, especially when they seem overly polished or aimed at funneling followers quickly. It’s a reminder that genuine connection often comes from more organic interactions rather than polished introductions. Lastly, insurance posts seem to fall into a category that many users tend to scroll past. They may not always resonate on a personal level, especially if the content feels too sales-driven rather than informative. Overall, my takeaway is that Lemon8's evolving algorithm prioritizes engagement and new content, but users like me appreciate better content curation that filters out low-value or overly promotional content. If Lemon8 could refine its algorithm to balance freshness with content relevance and authenticity, it would greatly improve user experience and creator satisfaction. For anyone navigating social media algorithms, whether on Lemon8, TikTok, or Instagram, it helps to understand your own content preferences and to selectively engage with posts that align with your values and interests. This personal filtering not only enhances your feed but also encourages more meaningful interactions within the community.

omg i have problems with outdated posts but it was worse last time, i think they did smth some time to improve it one randon day LOL, bc this app was marketed for places to go which is mainly popups, and even actual shops all close so fast these days, i used to see a post then go there then find it gone then go back and see the post date carefully HAHHA i was so not used to algorithm especially bc when social media apps first started, they were chronological (before these elaborate algorithms were a thing LOL). now everytime i see a place i want to go, i hv to look at the post date first😭 also sometimes when i look back at my old posts, more than half of the places i posted have closed already😭 (if i find this, i would edit it to say it's closed tho ! for convenience of anyone coming across my old posts bc of the algo LOL)

highly agreed with you. it's hard for me to see new posts after the Tiktok merger. I also see posts from Bangladesh workers looking to find girlfriends in Singapore and pinay maids looking for love. and more posts from china scammers.
