Why do we do this to ourselves😂

1/4 Edited to

... Read moreWe've all been there, right? That moment when you're knee-deep in dust and clutter, staring at a half-finished deep cleaning project, and the only thought running through your mind is, 'Why on earth did I decide to do this, especially after a long day of work?' It's a truly relatable feeling, reaching that point in the deep cleaning stage where you're wondering why you did this to yourself. It's almost as if some unseen force compels us to dive headfirst into these massive tasks, often setting ourselves up for a psychological rollercoaster. There's a fascinating psychological aspect behind our preference for immediate cleanliness results, even if it means sacrificing long-term space optimization or exhausting ourselves. We crave that instant gratification – the sparkle of a freshly wiped counter, the satisfaction of a decluttered drawer. It's a quick dopamine hit that tells our brains, 'Good job!' This desire for immediate, visible change can often overshadow the more methodical, less strenuous approach of gradual organization. We want the 'after' picture now, even if the 'during' is pure chaos and exhaustion. The problem is, this desire often leads us to overcommit, tackling too much at once because we're chasing that quick clean fix. Overcommitting to tasks, even seemingly simple ones like deep cleaning or reorganizing, can carry hidden risks, especially when our mental energy is already stretched thin. Just like taking on too many new activities during a period of recovery or stress, a massive cleaning project can lead to burnout, frustration, and even a sense of failure if not completed. You might start with the best intentions, imagining a perfectly organized home, but soon find yourself overwhelmed, leaving tasks unfinished, and feeling worse than when you started. It's a common trap: we see a mess, we feel the urge to fix it all at once, and then we crash. The mental load of planning, executing, and then recovering from a huge clean can be surprisingly heavy. It’s also important to remember that not everyone approaches these tasks with the same drive or capacity. Some people thrive on intense cleaning sessions, finding them therapeutic. Others, like me sometimes, find them incredibly daunting and draining. And that's okay! We all have different energy levels, different tolerances for mess, and different amounts of time and mental bandwidth. There's no 'right' way to deep clean or organize, and it's essential to be kind to yourself. If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's a sign to pause, reassess, and perhaps break down the task into smaller, more manageable chunks. Don't feel pressured to have the same Herculean cleaning heart as someone else on social media. Your pace is your pace. So, next time you feel that urge to deep clean your entire house after a busy day, remember the potential for overcommitment and the psychological factors at play. Maybe start small, focus on one area, or even just take a moment to appreciate the effort you're putting in, even if it feels like a monumental struggle. You're not alone in asking 'Why did I do this?', and acknowledging that feeling is the first step to a more balanced and less regretful cleaning journey.

Why do we fear boredom?
Why do we fear boredom? Most people today fear boredom. The moment silence appears they reach for a phone, a screen, or some form of distraction. Years ago boredom was easy to see. People sat quietly with their thoughts. Now we rarely allow that space to exist. But boredom is not the problem.
