Remembering the early days of opening my studio!
2 and a half years ago, I opened my tattoo studio. The aim was to create a female/queer centered space that was cozy (of course), safe, and fun to be around! We were hosting movie nights (neighboring building won’t let us anymore >.>), events, and just truly creating a community. As I enter my career in social work, I still value my studio and hope it continues to be this special place!
Creating a tattoo studio that centers on inclusivity and community offers more than just artistic services—it builds connections and safe spaces for marginalized groups. The focus on a female/queer-centered studio caters to those who often face barriers in mainstream tattoo environments, emphasizing comfort and acceptance. Hosting events like movie nights fosters deeper community engagement and transforms the studio into a cultural hub rather than a mere workspace. As tattoo culture continues to evolve, studios prioritizing safe, welcoming atmospheres attract diverse clients seeking personalized and meaningful experiences. This approach aligns with broader social movements advocating inclusivity and representation across art and business sectors. The studio's foundation not only supports artistic creativity but also promotes mental well-being and empowerment within underrepresented communities. Transitioning from running a tattoo studio to a career in social work shows a commitment to holistic support for these communities, reinforcing the importance of safe physical and social spaces. For tattoo artists and entrepreneurs inspired by this model, prioritizing inclusivity, event-driven community building, and adaptability can help sustain meaningful businesses while advocating social progress. Incorporating cozy, inviting design elements and encouraging events beyond tattooing—such as art shows, group discussions, or workshops—can enrich the client experience and foster loyal community ties. For Los Angeles’ diverse cultural landscape, such studios contribute positively by celebrating identity and creative expression within a safe and affirming environment.
