My recent trip to London was truly unforgettable, and I just had to share more about what made it so special! Beyond just seeing the famous landmarks, I really soaked in the vibrant atmosphere. Big Ben & Houses of Parliament: You absolutely cannot visit London without seeing Big Ben! It's even more impressive in person. I learned that officially, 'Big Ben' refers to the bell inside, not the clock tower itself, which is actually Elizabeth Tower. Standing there, listening to it chime, you really feel the history of the city. It's right next to the Houses of Parliament, a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture. I loved imagining all the historical decisions made within those walls. Tower Bridge: This iconic bridge is a marvel of Victorian engineering. I highly recommend walking across it, and if you have time, going up to the Tower Bridge Exhibition. The glass walkway is a bit thrilling, offering incredible views of the Thames, the Tower of London, and the city skyline. It’s fascinating to see how it opens for ships – I wish I had caught that in action! The details on the bridge itself are just gorgeous, making it perfect for photos. Buckingham Palace: While the original post just mentioned a 'palace,' for me, Buckingham Palace was a must-see. I tried to catch the Changing of the Guard, which is a truly grand spectacle. Even if you don't get to see the whole ceremony, just seeing the palace from outside, knowing it's the official residence of the monarch, is pretty cool. The gardens are vast, and you can sometimes visit state rooms during the summer months. It makes you feel so close to royal history! Beyond the Icons - My London Tips: London is so much more than its postcards. I found getting around on the Tube (Underground) super efficient, but also loved just walking through different neighborhoods. Don't miss exploring some of the hidden gems. For foodies, Borough Market is a sensory explosion – I spent hours there trying different street foods. And for a classic British experience, spotting the iconic red telephone boxes against the historic buildings is always a delight, making for great photo ops. While I didn't seek out specific places like 'OAKPARK' or 'MA MEATS LTD,' I thoroughly enjoyed visiting London's beautiful parks and trying various local eateries. The city truly offers a blend of ancient history and modern vibrancy around every corner. I'm already planning my next visit to explore even more!
