Can a beautiful life make you forget yourself?

The Women (2008) is more than a story about marriage.

It shows something many women don’t recognize until much later:

You can have the husband.

The home.

The family.

The financial comfort.

The beautiful life.

…and still slowly lose yourself inside it.

Self-abandonment doesn’t always look like suffering.

Sometimes it sounds like:

“It’s okay, he prefers it this way.”

“I don’t really need anything.”

“I’ll do it later.”

“As long as everyone is happy.”

You become so good at keeping everything together that you stop asking:

“What do I actually want?”

That’s the part I explore in The End of Self-Abandonment — why strong, capable women can become so focused on carrying everyone else that they lose touch with themselves.

If this feels familiar, DM me “BOOK” and I’ll send you the details.

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I've seen how easy it is to lose oneself in the pursuit of maintaining a beautiful life. At first, I thought having everything—husband, home, family, financial stability—meant happiness was guaranteed. But over time, I found myself silencing my own needs and desires to keep the peace and make others comfortable. Phrases like “It’s okay, he prefers it this way,” or “As long as everyone is happy,” became my mental scripts. I became so focused on fulfilling everyone else's expectations that I stopped asking myself, “What do I want?” This quiet self-abandonment doesn’t happen overnight; it's a gradual drift that many women don’t recognize until they feel lost. The phenomenon Julia highlights in "The End of Self-Abandonment" resonates deeply. It’s about recognizing that the ‘beautiful life’ can sometimes be a mask for sacrificing your independence, dreams, and even your voice. The fear of causing disharmony or disappointing loved ones can trap strong women into this cycle. Yet, acknowledging this struggle is the first step toward reclaiming your identity. In practical terms, setting small boundaries and reconnecting with personal passions helped me regain my sense of self. It’s okay to prioritize your needs and desires—it doesn’t make you selfish, but rather whole. If you’ve felt this quiet surrender, you’re not alone, and powerful change begins with recognizing your worth beyond the roles you play. This journey isn’t easy, but it’s essential to live authentically rather than just maintain appearances.
