HOW I PLAN WHERE TO STAY USING GOOGLE MAPS

Google Maps is one of my favorite apps for planning trips! One of my favorite ways to use it is to save all of the activities, restaurants, and sites I want to see to a list.

Once I have all of my must do activities saved to a list, I zoom into the map and look at where all of the dots are located. This helps in narrowing down what city to stay in; or what neighborhood to stay in if traveling to a large city. I always try to pick something that is nearby my dots, or central to all of my dots.

These lists are also super helpful once you are on our trip because you can click on the dot, and automatically get the directions on how to get there!

I hope this travel hack helps you!!

... Read moreMy favorite Google Maps trick truly revolutionizes how I plan my trips, especially when it comes to deciding where to stay. After I've pinpointed that ideal central neighborhood or city by looking at my cluster of saved "blue dots" of attractions – say, in Switzerland near Jungfraujoch or exploring vibrant Istanbul, Turkey – the next step is actually finding the perfect accommodation. Here's how I dive deeper: Finding the Best Hotels Near Your Saved Spots: Once I have my target area, I simply zoom in on the map and use the search bar to look for "hotels" or "rentals." Google Maps automatically shows me available options within that specific region. I look for those yellow circles highlighting hotel clusters. What's even better is the ability to filter! I can narrow down results by price range, star rating, guest reviews, and even specific amenities like a pool or free breakfast. This helps me quickly identify top-rated places that fit my budget right in the heart of the action. I also love to check out Google Map images and user-submitted photos to get a real feel for the place before I even click through to book. Discovering Even More Places to Go: Beyond my initial list of saved spots, Google Maps is fantastic for uncovering hidden gems once I'm in my chosen location. I often use the "Explore" tab or simply type in broad categories like "best cafes," "local markets," or "parks with views." The map will populate with new suggestions, often with photos, reviews, and detailed descriptions. This is how I've found some of my most memorable experiences, from a tiny, authentic restaurant to a breathtaking viewpoint I hadn't initially planned for. It's like having a local guide in my pocket! Leveraging Google Maps for Navigation During Your Trip: My saved lists aren't just for planning; they're indispensable during the trip itself. With all my attractions, like Light Ragaz AG, and restaurants saved, getting directions is a breeze. But I also go a step further. I often download offline maps of my destination beforehand, especially if I know I'll be in areas with spotty reception. It’s a lifesaver for navigating without data! Plus, checking public transport options directly within the app saves so much time. Knowing the estimated travel times between my saved "blue dots" helps me plan my daily itinerary much more efficiently, ensuring I maximize my time exploring instead of getting lost. Visualizing Your Trip with Immersive View: For a truly next-level planning experience, I sometimes utilize Google's immersive view feature (where available). It allows me to get a 3D, almost real-life perspective of an area or attraction. This helps me visualize the surroundings of a potential hotel, understand the layout of a neighborhood, or even see how crowded an attraction like Jungfraujoch might be. It’s like a virtual walk-through before you even leave home, ensuring my chosen accommodation and planned activities are exactly what I'm looking for.
