8 Tips for Correctly Load Dishwasher

I used to just randomly put dishes and mugs in the dishwasher, as long as they fit in. But some dishes still came out spotted or sticky 😅 It was my sister taught me the right way to do it.

Now, I take a few extra minutes to organize each plate, cup, and utensil in its proper place. It might sound small, but I finally understand how dishwasher makes my life easier.

Here are the tips:

1. Scrape the food off from the plates but not rinse. The dishwasher detergent/soap can clean.

2. Angle the pots and pan. It’s for better water flow and better cleaning.

3. Put the plates facing each other. This is for better water flow, so it can clean the dishes at the bottom rack better. But if there are more plates and it’s not enough room, just don’t overlap them.

4. Don’t put the cup/glasses on the tines. It may move around and damage the glasses/cup while washing.

5. Put utensil half up and half down. In case the spoon and fork nesting together and cannot clean very well.

6. Don’t block the wash arm. Just double check if there is any cookware hanging before closing the dishwasher.

7. Don’t over load. Too many dishes probably cause the whole load of dishes are not clean.

8. Bonus tip: if there is any hazy film on the glass or dishes, it maybe because of too much detergent or dish soap. Run the rinse cycle again for this load and use less or try different detergent/soap next time.

... Read moreFollowing up on that bonus tip about hazy film – I've personally found that the right rinse aid can be a total game-changer! While detergent cleans, rinse aid helps water bead up and run off, preventing those pesky water spots and that dull, hazy look on glasses and even stainless steel pots. Most dishwashers have a dedicated rinse aid compartment, often marked with a star or sun-like symbol. Just keep it topped up, and you'll notice a huge difference in how sparkling your dishes come out. It’s like giving your dishes that extra polish without any effort! But what if you're out of rinse aid or want a more natural solution for hard water spots? Here's a trick I learned that works wonders: a cup of white vinegar! I sometimes place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with about one cup of white vinegar on the top rack during a normal wash cycle (without additional detergent), or even run an empty cycle with just the vinegar. It's incredibly effective at breaking down mineral deposits, leaving your dishes, including those stubborn plates and bowls, looking brilliantly clean and streak-free. Plus, it helps clean the interior of your dishwasher too, tackling any lingering odors. It's a fantastic, low-cost way to make your dishes truly shine and keep your appliance fresh. Beyond loading correctly, maintaining your dishwasher itself is key to consistently clean dishes. I make it a habit to regularly check and clean the dishwasher filter, usually located at the bottom. You'd be amazed at the food scraps and debris that can accumulate there, directly impacting how well your dishes get cleaned! An ‘empty dishwasher’ isn't just about being ready for a new load; it's also the perfect time to give it some TLC. Wiping down the door seals with a damp cloth prevents mold and grime buildup. And every few months, I run a dedicated dishwasher cleaning tablet or another vinegar cycle when it's completely empty. This ensures the entire interior, including the spray arms and racks, stays sparkling clean and free of residue, so your meticulously arranged pots, pans, and utensils get the thorough wash they deserve. A clean machine is truly the secret to clean dishes!
