My Soot-Free Candle Habits That Really Work

I love candles. I cannot leave the candle aisle without smelling at least 20 of them😆. But I would never let candle soot leaves residue on the wall.

Honestly, I choose candle base on the scents and the jars. Sometimes I care about the type of wax and sometimes I don’t. But I actually have most of them are soy wax. My other habits help me to prevent wall residue too.

I like to use candles on my kitchen island or on the stove. If I use candles in the restroom or bedroom, I always like to put them away from the wall. I like to cover them after I blow out the candles because I don’t like the smoke smell. I do like to hear the wood wick sound when the candles are burning. I trim the candles wicks because the flames sometimes are crazy. Short wicks have the calm and peaceful vibes.

A small routine makes the difference and keeps me from the mess. 🥰🍋

... Read moreIf you're like me and adore candles but dislike the black soot that often trails on walls or surfaces, there are simple habits that can make a big difference in maintaining a cleaner home environment. One key habit is to keep candles at least 12-18 inches away from walls. This prevents the soot from settling on your walls and furniture. Placing candles on open surfaces like kitchen islands or countertops helps the flame stay steady and soot-free. Another important tip is to avoid drafty areas. Burning candles near air vents, fans, or open windows can cause the flame to flicker intensely, which increases soot production. By positioning your candles in a calm, draft-free spot, you’ll achieve a cleaner burn. Wick maintenance is often overlooked but crucial. Trimming the wick to about 1/4 inch before each use promotes a steady flame and significantly reduces soot. Longer wicks create larger flames that produce more smoke and residue, so keeping the wick short brings a peaceful vibe and cleaner air. Selecting candles made from soy, beeswax, or coconut wax also helps minimize soot. These natural waxes burn cleaner than paraffin-based candles. Additionally, candles with wood or cotton wicks burn safer and produce less soot compared to synthetic wicks. To further reduce smoke and soot when extinguishing candles, consider using a candle snuffer or placing the lid on a jar candle. Blowing out candles can generate a plume of smoke and increase soot residue, which a snuffer avoids. Combining these habits—candle placement, wick trimming, wax choice, and smoke reduction—creates a simple yet effective routine to enjoy candles without the mess. Following these small steps can truly transform your candle burning experience into a soot-free, peaceful moment in your home.
