Goodmorning note ✨
Coffee run with my daughter! Having a daughter in college is a different level of parenthood. She isn’t grown but she isn’t a baby anymore. She’s been home for a couple of days and I can finally spend some alone time with her. She made plans with friends and her boyfriend. I quickly remembered how it was when I was her age. I spent all my time running around with my boyfriend and my friends. My mom had to strong arm me to stay my butt home. Oh how quickly the tables have turned.
On our coffee run we didn’t do much talking, just tunes playing in the background, us humming to the lyrics and lots of slurping. This cookie cold brew from dunkin has me in a chokehold. 😟
Enjoy the precious moments with your children. Time waits for no one. #morningthoughts #lemon8challenge #letschat #coffee girl 🥰
It's funny how a simple coffee run can bring back a flood of memories and feelings. Like the original post mentioned, having a college daughter is a unique phase of motherhood. They're not kids anymore, but not fully independent either. It's a delicate balance, and sometimes, those quiet morning moments are the most precious. I remember when my own daughter first went off to college. The house felt so empty, especially in the mornings. I missed our breakfast chats, even the hurried ones. That's when I started sending her little morning notes – not always long, sometimes just a text, but always from the heart. It’s a way to say, 'I'm thinking of you,' even when miles apart. Inspired by the original post and some thoughts I've seen, I truly believe in being open with our daughters. As one powerful message said, 'I will not be a mystery to my daughter. She will know me and I will share my stories with her – the stories of failure, shame, and accomplishment. She will know she’s not alone in that wilderness.' This really resonated with me. Sharing our own journeys, our ups and downs, creates such a strong bond. It helps them navigate their own 'wilderness' of college life, relationships, and finding their path, knowing they have a guide who’s been there. Sometimes, a simple morning quote for a college daughter from mom isn't just about pretty words, but about reminding her of her strength, your love, and the wisdom you've gained. Here are a few ideas for those morning messages I've found helpful or crafted myself: "Good morning, my love! So proud of the amazing woman you're becoming. You've got this today, and always." "Rise and shine, sweet girl! Thinking of you and sending all your positive vibes for your busy day. Remember how much your mama loves you." "Morning, sunshine! Hope you have a fantastic day at college. Remember, you're capable of incredible things. Text me when you can!" These aren't just empty phrases; they carry the weight of all the love and effort we've poured into them. Like another beautiful sentiment I came across: 'Being a mama is worth all the exhaustion. It's worth every early wake up, every sleepless night, every pile of washing, every mess. All those hard days are all worth it. Because nothing in life feels as incredible as those little arms wrapped around you. Nothing beats hearing your child say, 'I love you'.' This rings so true, even as those 'little arms' become strong, independent ones. The core feeling of love never changes. Even during a quick coffee run, like the one described, those unspoken moments—humming to tunes, sharing a cold brew—are gold. They reinforce that connection without needing grand gestures. So, whether it's a heartfelt text, a quick call, or a cherished quiet morning together, let's keep nourishing those bonds with our college daughters. Time truly waits for no one, so let's make every moment count, even the small ones.
