The version my sister and I played, which you might have seen in our video, is super easy to set up. You basically need a few identical items – like cups, cards, or even pieces of candy. The key is that one of them is secretly designated as the 'POISON' item. The goal? To pick a 'SAFE' one! The 'challenge' part comes from the psychological aspect: trying to read your opponent, or if it's a group game, trying to avoid the poison chosen by someone else. The OCR from our images really captures the vibe: 'I'm scared,' 'scary actually,' 'SAFE,' 'POISON.' That's exactly how it felt! We were genuinely 'scared' to grab the wrong one. There are so many ways to play this, making it a fantastic 'trust game' or just a fun icebreaker. For example, in our game, we had a 'tie' at one point, which just upped the ante! One popular variation involves a 'dealer' who secretly marks one item. Players then take turns picking, and if they pick the poison, they're 'OUT'. It's a bit like a stripped-down version of 'Heads Up 7 Up' in terms of guessing, but with higher stakes because of the 'poison' element. The dialogue in our game, like 'Which one did you eat?' and 'Are you poison?' really shows how much we were trying to figure each other out. To make it even more exciting, you can add consequences for picking the poison – maybe a silly dare, having to answer a personal question, or even just bragging rights for the winner. We kept it light, but you can definitely amp up the 'challenge' factor. For a group of friends, having multiple 'SAFE' items and only one 'POISON' one adds a layer of strategy. For example, if you have five items, and one is poison, the chances of picking 'SAFE' are higher, but the suspense of not knowing which one is still there. What I love about the Poison Game is how simple it is, yet how much it reveals about people's tendencies – are they cautious, or do they jump right in?
