Our Movie (KDrama) what I call a perfect melodrama

A heartbreaking melodrama which hits all the right spots. 🥲🤧

Name: Our Movie

Episodes: 12

Platform: Disney+

✨Synopsis:

- (from ChatGPT): Our Movie follows Lee Je‑ha, a gifted film director paralysed by a five‑year creative slump under the weight of his acclaimed father’s legacy, and Lee Da‑eum, an aspiring actress courageously facing a terminal illness. When Je‑ha unexpectedly casts Da‑eum in his new film, a fragile, life‑affirming romance blossoms. As they collaborate on a movie about love and mortality, their shared wounds, hopes, and dreams entwine—transforming their real lives into art and each other into healing forces.

💭Thoughts:

Went into it not expecting much but it got me tearing and heart-aching by the end. The storyline is not that special but the acting was superb🌟 The slow development and intensity of the love between Jeha and Daeum were felt through the actors. You are not just watching the story unfold, but feeling it through their subtle changes in expressions, the way they interact with each other. The bitterness of the love between them when you know the ending will be tragic. There was no real villain character except the cancer itself.

I felt the side plots/love stories were a bit redundant... but to each their own. Also... major applause for the 2nd female lead love her! Her character was one of my favourites throughout the series. She stood strong in her views and she was caring and tough at the same time.

By episodes 11 & 12 I was tearing up every few scenes. You can see how each character wanted to be strong in front of Daeum, but are silently crying their hearts out. Honestly... that's how I felt when someone close passed away due to cancer... The way Daeum wanted to leave a positive impact and wanted people not to feel sad but to live happily after her death... reminds me of a similar experience. The way the drama handles the sensitive topic so maturely and beautifully pulled some of my heartstrings.

It is one of the better dramas I've watched this year... and I highly recommend it. Cinematic scenes, superb acting and a beautiful soundtrack, what more can you ask for? Prepare some tissues and enjoy this masterpiece!

rating: 9/10 (cause there's always room for improvement)

... Read moreWatching a drama like Our Movie made me reflect on the power of storytelling to connect us with deeply personal experiences. Beyond the main plot about Je-ha and Da-eum’s fragile romance, the series also gently explores the impact of mortality on those around the protagonists, offering a more holistic view of grief and resilience. The secondary characters and love stories, though sometimes feeling redundant, add layers to the narrative and show different ways people cope with pain and hope. For example, the 2nd female lead's strength and compassion highlighted diverse expressions of courage, reminding me how vital it is to hold onto kindness and resolve in hard times. From my experience, dramas that portray illness and emotional struggles thoughtfully help raise awareness and empathy. Our Movie does this beautifully, without villainizing but rather humanizing the difficult realities. The cinematic visuals and soundtrack enhanced these themes, making the viewing both aesthetically and emotionally fulfilling. For those drawn to melodramas that delve into life's bittersweet moments with nuance and grace, Our Movie is a must-watch. It encouraged me to appreciate small moments of connection and the courage in facing inevitable challenges, leaving a lasting impression long after the final scene.
