New Job ☕️
This past few weeks I went from not working to working at a beautiful coffee shop. This is not my first one but another stop along my journey.
Finding a new job can feel like a marathon, especially after a period of not working. I recently went through that journey myself, and landing my coffee shop job has been such a refreshing change! It got me thinking about how we navigate our #careerpaths and find opportunities that truly resonate with us. For anyone out there feeling a bit stuck in their job search, I wanted to share some thoughts. First off, don't limit yourself to just one type of job board. While specific sites like myjobstube.online or flexjobs might be great for certain niches, remember to explore a wide range of options. General platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and even local community boards can be goldmines for roles, including those in charming local coffee shops. Sometimes, the best opportunities aren't advertised widely, so don't hesitate to walk into places you love and ask if they're hiring! It shows initiative and passion, and often, small businesses appreciate that direct approach. Don't forget to check company websites directly too; for example, if you're curious about places like 'Happy Lemon,' checking their official careers page would be your best bet, rather than relying solely on general job aggregators. Then there's the big question many of us ask: 'Is a coffee shop job a good career path?' This is something I've pondered myself. For me, it's not just about making coffee; it's about connecting with people from all walks of life, honing essential customer service skills, mastering inventory management, and even getting a glimpse into basic business operations. These are incredibly valuable, transferable skills that can serve you well in so many other fields! What might seem like a 'miscellaneous' job on paper can actually be a fantastic stepping stone for future management roles, hospitality careers, or even entrepreneurship. Or, for those who truly love the atmosphere and community, it can be a deeply fulfilling long-term career in itself. The key is to define what 'good' means for your personal journey and what you hope to gain from the experience. When you're applying, make sure your resume highlights any customer service experience, even if it's from volunteering, school projects, or previous roles that weren't directly in hospitality. Emphasize your reliability, your ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and most importantly, your genuine passion for coffee, people, and creating a welcoming vibe. For interviews, come prepared to show your enthusiasm. Share a personal anecdote about why you love coffee or what you appreciate about their specific shop. Don't be afraid to ask questions about team culture or training opportunities. And speaking of career journeys, I've realized that every job, no matter how 'small' it seems, adds a unique chapter to your story. This coffee shop gig is another exciting adventure, teaching me new things every day and introducing me to wonderful new colleagues and customers. It reminds me that finding the right fit requires patience, persistence, and sometimes, a little bit of luck and an open mind. Keep exploring, keep learning, and keep an open mind about where your job journey might take you next. Perhaps you'll find your perfect fit in a cozy cafe, just like I did! It’s all part of the adventure, and every Emday and Eunday (or any day of the week, really!) can bring new opportunities if you're looking for them.
